Our college football analyst discusses Saturday’s game between BYU and Missouri. Join us in reading this well informed betting preview article which concludes with his college football pick.

Cougars and Tigers at Arrowhead
Missouri will take on BYU this coming Saturday. The opening kickoff at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri is slated for 7:30 PM ET. Current (11/12) college football odds indicate that BYU is anywhere from a 5.5 to 7-point favorite. At the time of this writing there was no posted total for this contest. This will be the first meeting between these schools on the gridiron since 1983.

BYU Enters Red-Hot
The BYU Cougars enter this week riding a five game winning streak, albeit one of those wins came over Wagner who competes at the FCS level. In any event, BYU is 7-2 overall this season, and is once again bowl eligible. They’re coming off a narrow 17-16 win at San Jose in their previous game, and failed to cover as a 11.0 point favorite. The Cougars only losses this season came at UCLA 24-23, and they were blanked 31-0 by Michigan in Ann Arbor. BYU has gone 5-1 under the total in their last six games against FBS opponents.

Anemic Offense has Plagued Missouri
The Missouri Tigers enter this week on a four game losing streak. During that stretch they’ve scored 13 points in each of those contests, and that’s also occurred in six of their last seven games. Missouri has gone 8-1 under the total this season, and those contests averaged only a combined 29.3 points scored per game. As a matter of fact, the only game that surpassed the number came in their previous contest against Mississippi State. The Bulldogs scored a touchdown with less than two minutes left to make the score 31-13 and push the game over the total of 41.5. What gets lost in Missouri’s frustrating season has been the outstanding play of their defense. The Tigers stop unit is allowing only 14.9 points and 298.6 yards per game. It’s even more impressive when you consider the fact they’ve been on the field for an average of 33:07 per outing.

Final Thoughts and Opinion Pick
Let me start this paragraph by saying, I won’t be making a wager on this game. There’s just too much uncertainty that pertains to a tumultuous week endured by the Missouri football team. They were front and center in a protest to remove its school president, and ultimately that’s exactly what transpired. There’s two ways this can go. Either the experience of bonding together will pay dividends for them this week against BYU, or the distractions off the field will result in too insurmountable task to overcome.

One thing that I can state for sure, the Tigers offense needs more than a new school president to get on track, and their defense is showing signs of wearing down. I’m going to have a very slight lean toward the favorite for one of my college football picks on Saturday.
