The Texas State Bobcats & the Georgia Southern Eagles are playing for unequal stakes. How will these teams react against the college football odds on this Thursday night game?

The Texas State Bobcats took care of business this past week. They weren’t facing a world-beater in the form of the South Alabama Jaguars, but in college football, you often see teams fail to make games as easy as they should make them on paper. The difference between what you logically expect and what actually happens is considerable, and young athletes don’t deal well with pressure or expectations. Texas State handled the situation beautifully, cruising to a 36-18 win and getting the two-way production which hasn’t come very easily for this team in the Sun Belt over the past few seasons. This is the kind of performance that Texas State can build on. It didn’t come against the toughest opponent, but good habits developed in off-the-radar games can solidify into good habits which emerge in bigger games against higher-profile teams. This is the hope of the Bobcats this week.

Georgia Southern lost by 18 points, 31-13, but the Eagles can’t allow themselves to feel too bad about their situation. They were playing on the road against the one team in the Sun Belt which is likely better than they are. Appalachian State was considered a top contender for the Sun Belt before this season began, and ASU – playing at home – rode a wave of confidence while the Eagles (as defending Sun Belt champions) played like a team trying to protect something. ASU wanted to go out and take something away, and it showed. Georgia Southern now knows that it needs two Appalachian State losses in order to win the Sun Belt. It just has to start this Thursday, and the Eagles must build from there.

Line Moves
The college football odds started with Georgia Southern as a 19-point choice, but the Eagles have gained two points and are now a three-touchdown favorite at 21 points even. Why is this the case after a week in which Georgia Southern got clobbered by 18? There are two fundamental reasons. One, Georgia Southern lost to a great opponent and is still much higher than Texas State in the Sun Belt pecking order, playing this game at home. Two, and this might be the bigger reason, Georgia Southern played last Thursday against Appalachian State. Texas State played its game on Saturday. That’s right – Texas State is playing with only four days of rest, while Georgia Southern is playing with a normal week of rest, six full days. Since Texas State is traveling to the state of Georgia for this game, that’s an even more brutal turnaround for the Bobcats in what is a terrible piece of scheduling. That’s going to matter, and bettors see it.

Notable Injuries
Texas State does not have any injuries listed at this time & Georgia Southern does not have any injuries listed, either.

Handicapping The Game
The two-day travel difference is not to be underestimated in looking at this game. You should trust Georgia Southern to make this item mean a lot, so take them with your college football picks.
