The Tulsa Golden Hurricanes host the Marshall Thundering Herd on Thursday. The odds are out; which side are we on?

According to college football betting odds Marshall is a 14.0 point road favorite. Tulsa has won all 4 meetings in this series since both teams have been a member of Conference USA.

Tough Times at Tulsa

Tulsa fans aren’t accustomed to seeing their football team struggle to the degree that they have in 2013. Tulsa enters this contest having lost 3 in a row, and 6 of their last 7-games. There aren’t many positives to speak about when assessing their season to this point. They’re 107th nationally in scoring offense, and 102nd in scoring defense. That combination is a recipe for disaster, and the Golden Hurricanes have held true to form in that regard.

Last Saturday they were only down 17-10 at the half on the road versus East Carolina. That was until the Pirates outscored them 41-14 in the 2nd half of a 58-24 loss. In addition to their dismal 2-7 record, the Golden Hurricanes have decimated their backer’s bankrolls by going 1-8 ATS. Their only cover came in a 34-20 home win over a 1-8 Texas El Paso squad.

Good but was Expected Better

There were huge expectations entering the season for the Marshall Thundering Herd. Although they enter this contest 6-3 it’s widely been considered to be a bit of a disappointment for those closest to the program. The schedule was there for the taking. Ironically the one game that their fans had penciled in as a sure loss, almost resulted in an upset win at Virginia Tech. Unfortunately the Herd fell short in Blacksburg losing 29-21 in triple overtime. What surely couldn’t have been expected was a home loss to Ohio as a 7.5-point favorite, and a road loss to Middle Tennessee St. as a 10.0 point chalk. Marshall’s 3 losses this season have come by a combined 13-points total. On a more positive note, they come off convincing wins in their last 2-games 61-13 versus Southern Miss, and 56-14 over UAB. This will mark the 9th time in 10-games that Marshall has been installed as a favorite, and the 8th time in those 10 they’re a double-digit chalk.

College Football Super System

Any road favorite that’s allowed 14-points or less in each of their last 2-games, versus an opponent who saw a combined 80-points or more scored in their previous game is 25-5 ATS (83.3%) since the start of the 1992 season. My lean for my college football picks here is the Marshall Thundering Herd.
