Ross Benjamin is 33-17 ATS (66%) with his college football picks in those articles over the past 6 weeks. Join us in reading his article on Wednesday’s national television game between Toledo and Northern Illinois.

Northern Illinois vs. Toledo Odds

A couple of long time MAC rivals will meet on Wednesday night when Toledo takes on Northern Illinois. It must be noted, this contest will take place at US Cellular Field in Chicago, and is considered a neutral site game. There’s a scheduled opening kickoff time of 8:00 PM ET, and the game will be televised on ESPN2.

Northern Illinois has dominated the recent head to head series against Toledo, and has defeated the Rockets in each of the previous 6 seasons. However, 5 of those six games were decided by 7 points or less.

At the time of this writing (11/7), college football betting odds at BetOnline has Toledo as a 6.5-point favorite, and there was no total available. BetOnilne is widely regarded to be one of the top online betting sites.

2016 Resumes

College football bettors have become accustomed to Northern Illinois being a perennial MAC powerhouse over the past 6 seasons. After all, during that course of time, the Huskies went a combined 64-19 (.771) overall, including 47-7 (.870) when facing conference opponents, appeared in the last 6 MAC championship games, and won the conference title 3 times. Nonetheless, it’s been a down year for the Huskies. Despite winning their last 2 games over Buffalo and Bowling Green, Northern Illinois enters this week with an uninspiring 3-6 record. In their defense, their 6 losses have come against opponents that are a combined 43-13 (.768) this season. The Huskies will be out to avoid its first losing season since 2007.

Toledo is enjoying a stellar year thus far, and their 7-2 record is indicative of such. Their only 2 losses came at BYU 55-53, and they were upset 31-26 a couple of weeks back by an Ohio team (7-3 overall) that leads the MAC East Division with a 5-1 record. The Rockets are a dynamic offensive football team that averages 40.3 points and 553.0 yards per game.

Overwhelming College Football ATS Betting History

Toledo is coming off a decisive 48-17 win at Akron last Wednesday, and covered easily as a 10.5-point favorite. Conversely, Northern Illinois has won and covered in each of its previous 2 games. Those results lead to a college football betting angle that’s been highly successful since 1994.

Any conference favorite of 3.5 to 27.5 (Toledo), playing after game 7 of the season, and is coming off a conference away favorite of 10.0 or more ATS win, versus an opponent (Northern Illinois) coming off SU&ATS wins in each of their previous 2 games, resulted in those favorites going 29-8 ATS (78.4%) since 1994.

Between Toledo’s big time revenge factor in this contest, and the above mentioned ATS betting algorithm, I’m going with the favorite in this contest for one of my college football week 11 picks.
