A couple of very good Big Ten teams square off Saturday when Minnesota visits No. 6 Wisconsin. SBR contributor Ross Benjamin provides a betting preview on this contest and makes a case for UW at -14.5 on college football  odds.

Minnesota At No. 6 Wisconsin

Wisconsin (9-2) hosts Minnesota (8-3) on Saturday in what will be the regular season finale for both teams, although UW likely will play next week (see below). It's a 3:30 p.m. ET kickoff from Camp Randall Stadium and the game will be televised by the Big Ten Network.

The college football betting odds at BetOnline.com have Wisconsin a 14.5-point favorite and there’s a posted total of 44.0. If you’re searching for one of the best sportsbooks to deal with, choosing BetOnline.com would be an extremely wise choice.

Saying that Wisconsin has owned Minnesota in this series would be a vast understatement. The Badgers have defeated the Golden Gophers 12 consecutive times, and Minnesota’s last win over Wisconsin came in 2003. Furthermore, Wisconsin has won 10 straight at home against Minnesota, and the Gophers haven’t won at Camp Randall since 1994.

Gophers Prey On The Weak

Minnesota should be commended for its 8-3 record, and that includes 5-3 in conference games. However, all 5 of its conference wins have come against teams that sport an existing losing record. As a matter of fact, Minnesota’s 7 wins over FBS opponents this season have been against teams entering this week with a cumulative record of 27-50 (.351).

Plenty On Line For Wisconsin

Wisconsin's only 2 defeats have come at No. 3 Michigan, 14-7, and 30-23 in overtime against No. 2 Ohio State. The Badgers own quality wins over LSU and at Iowa. With a win on Saturday OR a Nebraska loss Friday at Iowa, Wisconsin will advance to the Big Ten Championship Game against either Michigan (10-1), Ohio State (10-1) or Penn State (9-2). Whatever the case may be, Wisconsin is still very much alive for a College Football Playoff berth as shown by its No. 6 ranking entering Week 13.By winning the next 2 weeks, Wisconsin should clearly be the top choice for the playoff committee over any remaining 2-loss teams, if indeed one lands in the top 4.

ATS Betting History Favors Badgers

The Badgers are coming off a 49-20 win over Purdue last week and covered as a 27.5-point away favorite. A combination of this data, and the current point spread, leads us to a very successful betting algorithm that’s applicable for making this game one of your college football week 13 picks.

Any home favorite of 3.5 to 35.5, playing in its final regular season game, with a win percentage of .700 or better and coming off an away favorite ATS win in its previous game resulted in those home favorites going 21-3 ATS (87.5%) since 2008.
