Virginia Tech Hokies Plauyers

Each week on these pages, Joe Gavazzi isolates a steamroller of the week and provides his college football pick. This week he looks into the Hokies and  Tar Heels week 6 clash.

VA Tech vs N. Carolina (-2) 3:30 ET

For those of you who heeded the advice of last week’s article entitled The CFB Double Rushers and the 200 Club, you profited handsomely with Saturday’s selections that went 6-2 ATS. Selections on this site are now 29-17 ATS with more winners on tap for this weekend. If you enjoyed last week’s article, then you will be sure to read this week’s NFL article called 2016 NFL Teams Run to the Bank. There you will read about NFL situations that provide 85% ATS winners, along with bonus situations that are 93% and 100% ATS this year in the NFL.  Enjoy the winners.

Under 5th year HC Fedora, the Tar Heels appear on pace to match their 11-3 SU record of last year. The Heels have opened 4-1 SU (only loss opening day to Georgia) and have passed for more than 400 yards the last 3 weeks in victories against James Madison, Pitt and Florida St. last week. QB Trubusky has been phenomenal with 70% completions and with a 19/0 ratio L2Y. This week, Carolina must not only overcome the letdown of that Tar Heel victory, but they must also avoid the Achilles’ heel that is their rush defense. In the previous 2 seasons, the Tar Heels allowed an average of 244/5.2 overland. Again this season, foes are gouging the Carolina defensive front for 237/5.0. They have been outrushed in 4/5 contests.

Enter VA Tech who, under 1st year HC Fuentes, has turned around their offensive fortunes. Remember the turnaround Fuentes created at Memphis, when last year his Tigers averaged 40/487 on the offensive end.  Now with 2 weeks to prepare his defense for the Carolina passing game, they look to continue the offensive momentum they have created off scoring 49 points against a Top 10 defense, Boston College, and 54 points against E. Carolina. Credit not only Fuente but his triggerman QB Evans!

This is a far different VA Tech team than the one you are used to witnessing under former HC Beamer. Expect the Hokies to double rush N. Carolina and STEAMROLL their defensive front into submission in this far from surprising upset victory. I invite you to put the College Football odds in your favor and join me in my College Football pick on VA Tech this afternoon.
