Inter-conference matchups hit fast and heavy in the ACC as the Wake Forest Demon Deacons collide with the Duke Blue Devils. Will we see a similar outcome? Get your Collge Football pick here!

Wake Forest vs. Duke
Kickoff is set for Saturday, September 10th at 3:30 p.m. EST at Wallace Wade Stadium in Cameron, North Carolina. According to top rated sports betting site 5Dimes, Duke is a mere 5 point betting favorite at home and the total for the game is listed at 44 1/2. While the level of opponent is much more formidable facing Duke, are the Blue Devils getting a lack of respect from most online oddsmakers?

Daniel Jones
As in most games, quarterback play determines the outcome of games. Freshman quarterback, Daniel Jones, passed his first test at the collegiate level with flying colors as he helped lead the way for Duke in a 45-6 romp of the North Carolina Central Eagles.

In this game, Jones was accurate, going 10 of 15 for 189 yards and 2 TD's and he also scored a rushing TD. With high school senior, Jack Sears, rated highly as a recruit for next season, it would suit Jones well to play well and cement his spot as the starting QB. Week 1 was against weak opposition, but he has all of the tools; good size, athleticism, and the ability to make smart decisions. He'll need to be at his best as he faces a Wake Forest Demon Deacons squad which only allowed 3 points in week 1. Look for Jones to play well. He appears to be the real deal.

Eating Up Yardage
Where the Blue Devils lack experience at the quarterback position, they have a tremendous amount of experience at running back with senior, Jela Duncan. This is a player that never had more than 562 yards rushing in a season, but he'll receive more touches this season. Duncan is a very effective runner when he see's the football as he's coming off of a season in which he averaged 6.9 yards per carry. In week 1 this season, Duncan dominated with 15 carries for 115 yards and 2 TD. While I don't expect things to be as easy this week against Wake Forest, look for Duke's key offensive players to come into this game with a ton of confidence.

An Unimpressive Victory
While the defense did their job against Tulane, allowing just 280 total yards and 3 points, the Wake Forest Demon Deacons offense was very ineffective in a week 1 7-3 win over the Green Wave. Tulane controlled the time of possession and Wake Forest was held to just 175 total yards and 10 1st downs. The only impressive thing that the Demon Deacons were able to do is not turn the ball over and as all football fans know, turnovers are a killer.

Wake Forest quarterback, John Wolford, managed just 79 yards passing overall, but on the positive side, he didn't throw a pick. This is a quarterback that is notorious for throwing interceptions and that can hurt Wake Forest in this game as they don't want Duke's offense to take total control of time of possession as the Blue Devils will capitalize on mistakes.

While sophomore quarterback, Kendall Hinton, scored the only touchdown in last week's game for the Demon Deacons, their offensive line will need to be much better or we'll see another "stinker" from running back Matt Colburn as Colburn had managed just 23 yards on 11 carries. The positive aspect to Colburn's game is that he can catch passes out of the backfield, but he and the rest of the Demon Deacons offense will need to play much better to have a chance at matching up against Duke.

5 points isn't a lot in this game. I know that Duke didn't play a high-level opponent in week 1, but they have the far superior squad and should cover the spread quite easily. My free college football pick is Duke -5.

Also, remember to check out SBR's lists of the best-rated sportsbook bonuses.
