College football picks have made their way to December, just before Christmas. Which teams will get a victory as a holiday present, and which teams will walk away empty-handed?

Poinsettia Bowl: Boise State Broncos vs. Northern Illinois Huskies
This is a game in which backup quarterbacks relative to opening day will be on the field. Boise State will go with Brett Rypien, who replaced the injured Ryan Finley early in the season. Northern Illinois will go with Ryan Graham, who replaced the injured Drew Hare in the middle section of the season. One key detail to note here is that when Northern Illinois lost to Ohio late in the season, Graham himself was injured, making it very hard for NIU to pull off a comeback, even though that game was at home. Graham has been able to use this month off as a time to recover. He will be physically prepared to play this game, and so while NIU certainly got downgraded in the eyes of several bettors due to its loss to Ohio, that game had an injury-affected result. Northern Illinois is probably being overlooked to a certain extent. The number might be a little higher than it should be. If this was a five-or six-point spread, it might make more sense for Boise State. The Broncos could very possibly win this game by a touchdown. However, if they win by a touchdown, NIU covers the number as it stands. With eight points, you’re probably getting a better deal if you choose the Huskies. NIU’s defense should probably be able to do enough to keep this game close on the college football odds.

GoDaddy Bowl: Georgia Southern Eagles vs. Bowling Green Falcons
The key point to make here is that while Bowling Green is in the midst of a coaching transition, due to former head coach Dino Babers taking the open job at Syracuse, Georgia Southern underwent a late-stage coaching change, as Willie Fritz moved to Tulane. Babers was long expected to leave Bowling Green and look for a more high profile job at a larger school in a better known conference. Fritz was mentioned at times as a possible replacement for a less visible school, but even Tulane might have come across as a surprise to people who followed the Green Wave. Fritz might have been expected to set his sights higher. Georgia Southern did not have a bad season, but it failed to defend its Sun Belt Conference championship from 2014. Bowling Green has been the better team all season long, but the more important point is that with Georgia Southern experiencing this late-breaking coaching change (later than Bowling Green, anyway), the Eagles are not likely to pull the upset against the Falcons, whose passing game should be able to get a lot of work done here. Georgia Southern will be swimming against the tide in its attempt to create a shocking bowl moment. Take Bowling Green with your college football picks.
