ACC cellar dwellers Syracuse and Boston College square off on Saturday (12:30 p.m. ET), each hoping for a rare conference win. Get your college football pick and betting preview here.

Syracuse Orange (3-4 SU, 3-4 ATS)

Syracuse is coming off one its biggest upset wins in modern history, beating Virginia Tech 31-17 as a 20-point underdog. It’s the program’s largest outright win against the spread since a 38-35 win over Louisville in 2008 as 36.5-point pups. The victory is the Orangemen’s third in ACC play over its last 16 played.

Head coach Dino Barber’s rolls out a quick-paced, spread passing attack. Syracuse goes to the air 45.8 times per game, seventh-most nationally. Sophomore quarterback Eric Dungey has thrown for 2,197 yards, 12 touchdowns, and 5 interceptions on 192 of 308 passes. Wideout Amba Etta-Tawo’s 930 receiving yards rank second in the nation behind Louisiana Tech’s Trent Taylor (987).

Defensively, Syracuse is one of the nation’s worst. It rolls over for 529.3 total yards per game. Only Oregon (548.4) yields more out of Power 5 programs.

Boston College Eagles (3-3 SU, 3-3 ATS)

Boston College has not won an ACC game since 2014, going 0-11 SU and 3-7-1 ATS in its last 11 conference matchups. Head coach Steve Addazio’s squad has only been favored in two (Wake Forest, Syracuse) losing each by a field goal.

The offense is virtually non-existent during the ACC losing streak. It averages 8.8 points on 230.2 total yards per game. Even the betting market struggles to put a number on it. The Eagles have scored below their projected total in 10 of the 11 by 8.3 points per game.

Addazio’s team averages 17.0 points per game in 2016; fewest in the ACC. Kansas (15.4), South Carolina (14.0), and Rutgers (10.7) are the only Power 5 teams to post less this season.

Addazio’s success is built on defense, and the Eagles deliver. They yield 281.2 total yards per game against FBS opponents, sixth fewest nationally. Stuffing the run is what they do best, allowing 123.3 per game in ACC play since last season.

The UNDER is 9-3 when Boston College kicks off home chalk under Addazio. The defense has held teams below their team total in 10 of the 12 contests for 12.2 points per game.

Final Analysis

If there is a chink in Boston College’s defensive armor, it is against the pass. It’s allowing 7.0 yards per attempt against FBS opponents and will see a lot of it on Saturday. Syracuse comes in with confidence after thumping the Hokies and holding them to their fewest points scored all season. If the Eagles win, it shouldn’t be by more than a touchdown. This is a team that has scored more than 17 points once in its last 14 games against FBS foes. We’ll take the points with Syracuse, and would not be shocked at an outright upset at a price.
