The Central Florida Golden Knights host the Rutgers Scarlet Knights on Thursday Night. The odds are out; which side are we on?

According to college football betting odds UCF is a 17.0-point home favorite.

Scared Straight

Central Florida should’ve learned a valuable lesson last Saturday at Temple. They barely escaped with a 39-36 win as a 17.5 point road favorite. J.J. Worton caught a 30-year touchdown pass with just 1:06 left in the 4th quarter which tied the game at 36-36. UCF was able to regain possession shortly thereafter, and consequently cash in on a Shawn Moffit 24-yeard field goal as time expired, while keeping the BCS Bowl aspirations intact. Junior quarterback Blake Bortles continued his terrific season going 27-38 for 404 yards, 4 touchdowns, and 0 interceptions. The defense is cause for concern after allowing Temple 518 yards of total offense, including 382 via the air. UCF leads the newly formed American Athletic Conference with a perfect 5-0 record, followed by Cincinnati and Louisville who are both 5-1. The winner of the AAC gets an automatic BCS Bowl berth.

Humiliating and Embarrassing

Rutgers was off to a 4-1 start to the season until dropping 3 of their last 4-games heading into this contest. Their most recent defeat came last Saturday in embarrassing fashion as they were thumped at home by Cincinnati 52-17. The most discouraging part of the loss, besides the lopsided final score, was the Scarlet Knights unwillingness to compete. They fell behind 38-7 at the half, and were outgained in the game 619-357. Three Bearcats quarterbacks combined to throw for 507 yards and 6-touchdowns. After this contest the Scarlet Knights conclude the year with games versus Connecticut and South Florida who are a combined 3-16 this season. There’s little doubt they will be bowl eligible before it’s all said and done.

Final Analysis

The general public has flooded the books with early money on Central Florida for their college football picks. Based on how Rutgers has looked in their last few games how can you blame them? However, this is a Rutgers football program that’s shown a lot of resiliency in recent years. The Scarlet Knights are a very profitable 10-2 ATS since the beginning of the 2011 season as an underdog, and won 7 of those 12-games outright. As great of a season that UCF is having, they still possess some flaws defensively which can be exposed. My professional experience and intuition leads me to believe that the Scarlet Knights will show up in a big way on national television, and give their highly touted opponent all they can handle.
