Saturday’s winner in Raleigh has the upper hand to take the ACC Atlantic Division, and it’s No. 4 Clemson favored by a touchdown on the NCAA football odds at No. 20 NC State.

Playing in one of their biggest games the last 15 years, things didn’t go too well for the North Carolina State Wolfpack last Saturday. On the road in South Bend, the ‘Pack fell to Notre Dame by a 35-14 count, the loss dropping them at least four places in the conventional polls and taking NC State out of the running for the College Football Playoff.

The good news is it didn’t cost Dave Doeren’s bunch anything in the ACC standings, where they remain unbeaten and on top of the Coastal Division. Staying unbeaten in league play to make a run for the conference championship game won’t be easy, however, with the Clemson Tigers coming to Raleigh for a 3:30 PM (ET) boot this Saturday on ABC. The winner has a leg up on the rest of the division for the ACC title tilt, and Bookmaker favors the Tigers by 7½ with 51 for the scoreboard hurdle.

Both Teams On 5-Game ‘Under’ Runs

Dabo Swinney’s squad had a week off to lick their wounds following a 27-24 upset loss at Syracuse in Week 7 and came out strong this past Saturday to build an early lead against Georgia Tech before finishing with a 24-10 victory. Clemson let its defense do the heavy lifting in the matchup, holding the Yellow Jackets’ ground attack under 200 yards for the first time in 2017. The final marked the 5th straight ‘under’ winner for the Tigers.

Getting 7 on the road at Notre Dame, North Carolina State failed to cover the NCAA football odds in a game that saw the Irish defense throw up a roadblock for the Wolfpack. Doeren’s defense went into that game ranked sixth nationally against the run, only to watch Notre Dame rip off more than 300 yards on the ground. The Wolfpack come into this one banged up, with top tailback Nyheim Hines leaving the ND game early with an ankle injury and listed as questionable this week. They are also thin on the defensive line, though tackle Justin Jones (elbow) is probable.

Rivalry Trends, Mother Nature & A Free Pick

With five straight wins in the series, Clemson has doubled up on NC State with a 56-28 advantage, one more contest paying to a tie. The Wolfpack have covered five of the last seven matchups, this year’s collision the 12th in a row for Clemson to carry the chalk. Last year’s clash went to overtime before the Tigers pulled it out, 24-17, the 5th straight in the series never to reach the total.

A mostly cloudy afternoon is expected in Raleigh where temps aren’t expected to get out of the 60s. My free college football pick is a Daily Double as the Tigers roll to a 28-13 triumph.
