QB Deshaun Watson and the #2 Clemson Tigers get a chance for revenge against #1 Alabama on Monday night. Let’s handicap this beauty of a game which ends another memorable FBS season and provide a pair of hopefully profitable picks.

Clemson Tigers vs Alabama Crimson Tide

CFP National Championship Game

It’s #1-ranked Alabama (14-0 SU, 10-4 ATS) and #2 Clemson (13-1 SU, 7-7 ATS) who will play for the third-ever CFP National Championship Monday night at Raymond James Stadium (Grass) In Tampa (Fair, 58°).

Odds in this CFP matchup see Alabama 6- to 7-point favorites with the total 50½ to 51 with the money line having the Crimson Tide cheap -225 chalks with Clemson +185. The 1st Half odds show Alabama 3½-point favorites with the 1st Half Total 25½ to 26.

Alabama Crimson Tide

With distracted Lane Kiffin scrapped by Alabama HC Nick Saban (73-55-1 ATS), Steve Sarkisian takes over offensive coordinator responsibilities and with QB Jalen Hurts, Bo Scarbrough, ArDarius Stewart, Calvin Ridley and OJ Howard he should be alright as long as he doesn’t get too conservative with his play-calling.

Alabama’s 4-1 ATS L5 vs. ACC and neutral site games and 7-2 ATS following an SU Win—but then again this SEC team seems to win every game with its last loss coming to Ole Miss in Week 3 last season. Reuben Foster and the Crimson Tide are #1 in scoring defense and have a crazy 11 defensive TDs. The Over’s 19-6-1 L26 Alabama neutral site games.

Clemson Tigers

Clemson has the better QB (Deshaun Watson) and W6 consecutive Bowls ATS—including covering last year’s meeting as similar 6½-point underdogs. Watson, helped by RB Wayne Gallman (16 TDs) in the Tigers backfield, has the best receiving corps in FBS with Artavis Scott, Mike Williams, Jordan Leggett, Hunter Renfrow and Deon Cain.

Defensively, Carlos Watkins and Clemson are very impressive indeed, as the shutout against Ohio State in the semifinal showed. HC Dabo Swinney (59-48-1 ATS) and the ACC’s Tigers are 8-1 ATS L9 neutral site games, 5-2 ATS L7 non-Conference but 2-5 ATS L7 vs. teams winning records. The last time Clemson beat Bama? 1905.

Caution May Rule at First But Too Many Skill Players Means Points

With sportsbooks taking much Clemson money, there’s perceived value here in backing Alabama money line compare to Seattle.

This could be close again, but with a chance at back-to-back CFP championships and undefeated seasons, Saban and the Crimson Tide will simply find a way to win with a couple of Watson interceptions possibly undoing the game Tigers.
