Saturday night’s college football betting action closes things out with a Pac-12 showdown out on the West Coast between the UCLA Bruins and the Stanford Cardinals. Game time from Stanford Stadium is set for 10:30 p.m. (ET) on ESPN with both teams coming off a tough loss as road favorites on the closing NCAAF betting lines.

UCLA at Stanford Game Overview

It has been one wild ride for the Bruins this season and they have only played three games. After squeezing out a tight 45-44 victory against Texas A&M in their season opener as 6.5-point home favorites, they hammered Hawaii 56-23 the following week as 24-point favorites at home. In its first road game of the year, UCLA came up short in a 48-45 loss to Memphis as a slight 2.5-point favorite. The main thing that all three of these games have in common is that they all went well OVER the closing total line.

Junior quarterback Josh Rosen has lit things up through the air in his first three starts with 1,283 yards passing and 13 touchdown throws. He has completed 91 of his 140 attempts for a completion rate of 65 percent. With just 365 total rushing yards on 86 attempts, it is easy to see why UCLA is ranked second in the nation in passing and 102nd when it comes to running the ball. Looking at the points this team has scored as well as given up; there is also a huge disparity in the Bruins’ national ranking in these two categories as well.

Stanford got an early start to its season in Australia with a 62-7 pounding of Rice as a 30-point favorite. There may have been some lingering jet lag from that trip in its subsequent losses to USC and San Diego State the past two weeks both straight-up and against the spread. The total went OVER 55 points in the 42-24 loss to the Trojans as four-point road underdogs before staying UNDER 47.5 points in last week’s stunning 20-17 loss to the Aztecs as an 8.5-point favorite on the road.

With two respectable starts under his belt, senior quarterback Keller Chryst took a significant step backward in last Saturday’s loss with just nine completions on 20 passing attempts for 72 yards. The tossed two interceptions to go along with a strip-sack fumble. The only bright spot in that game was Bryce Love running the ball for 184 yards and two scores on 13 attempts. The Cardinal’s offense has averaged 34.3 points through its first three games and the defense is allowing an average of 23 points on the other side of the ball.

UCLA at Stanford Game Betting Trends

  • The Bruins have failed to cover in seven of their last nine road games, but they have gone 4-1 ATS in their last five games after failing to cover in their previous contest. The total has stayed UNDER or ended as a PUSH in six of their last seven games on the road.
  • The Cardinal are 15-7 ATS in their last 22 conference games, but they have failed to cover in their last four games played at home. The total stayed UNDER in nine of their last 13 September games.
  • Head-to-head in this conference tilt, the favorite has covered ATS in seven of the last nine meetings and the total has stayed UNDER in 11 of the last 16 games between the two.

UCLA at Stanford Free NCAAF Pick

Both teams have struggled with consistency in every phase of the game through the early part of the season, but they also matchup extremely well against one another. This game could easily be decided by whichever team has the ball last so I am going to take the 7.5 points on SBR odds' current board and go with UCLA to cover as my top play in this game.
