Head to Head
Maryland was a 50-21 winner last week against Richmond.  It puts them on pace for a season that is projected to be similar to their 7-6 SU records of the last 2 years.  In that win over Richmond, the Terps were strong overland, outrushing the Spiders 341-56.  Further south, Bowling Green was losing a 30-59 decision to Tennessee, a pointspread loser for this bureau at +21.  We had the game right where we wanted it with the Falcons trailing by 19 points entering the 4th quarter.  With Tennessee looking ahead to Oklahoma this week, it was hypothesized that the strong Bowling Green passing game (which did throw for 433 yards) would come through the back door.  But, it was the Vols who scored the final 10 points of the contest!

This afternoon, Bowling Green looks to bounce back as a qualified returning starter play.  To review those demanding parameters once again:  Our team must have 14 or more returning starters, while the foe has 12 or less returning starters.  Furthermore, our team must have at least 5 more returning starters than the foe, return both their starting QB and HC and posted 4 or more wins in the previous season.  These stringent parameters will win you a lot of money over the course of time.  (Other teams who qualify this week under these guidelines include LSU, App St., Mid-Tenn St. and Tennessee).

On the field, it will again be a battle of the strong Bowling Green offense vs. the ground game of the Terps.  Expect Bowling Green to win that battle.  For, they will be facing a Maryland contingent that returns only 4 starters on the defensive side of the ball from a team who allowed 30 PPG last season, including 202 or more BOTH running and passing, making them a 200 CLUB PLAY AGAINST in the early going of the season.  It will be basketball on grass as usual under 2nd year Bowling Green BC Babers, who returns all 11 starters to a unit that averaged 30 PPG last year on 435 yards.  In the 2nd season under Babers, who was an assistant coach for 4 years at Baylor, before guiding an E. Illinois team to back-to-back playoff berths, look for the Falcons to soar to nearly 40 PPG.

Expect huge offensive improvement from a full contingent of returning starters.  In a shoot-out, trust the experienced Bowling Green offense against the 200 CLUB defense of Maryland.
