This handicapper has gone a perfect 7-0 with his College Football picks so far, and today he breaks down the betting odds for Virginia Tech vs. Ohio St. to uncover the best wagering value.

Early Season Classic Matchup
The Ohio St. Buckeyes (Big 10 Conference) will host the Virginia Tech Hokies (Atlantic Coast Conference) on Saturday at the “Big Horseshoe” in Columbus. Kickoff time is slated for 8:00 PM ET, and the game will be televised nationally by ESPN. According to College Football odds, Ohio St. is an 11.0 point home favorite, and the posted total is 47.0.

Last Week’s Season Openers
Virginia Tech was able to get off to a good start with a dominating 34-9 win over William & Mary. The Hokies were also able to cover as a 22.0 point favorite. The Hokies piled up 488-yards of total offense, and held their FCS opponent to just 193-yards on the day. Texas Tech transfer Michael Brewer made the start at quarterback for Virginia Tech, and was stellar in his Virginia Tech debut. Brewer was 23-30 in the air, for 251 yards, and 2-touchdowns.

Ohio St. received a scare last week from the Naval Academy in their opening game of the season. The 34-17 final scoring was not indicative of how close the game actually was. The Buckeyes trailed 7-6 at the half, and 14-13 late in the 3rd quarter, and then scored a couple of 4th quarter touchdowns for the final margin of victory. Ohio St. was able to rack up 420-yards of total offense, but they also allowed the Middies to amass 390-yards themselves.

Why Ohio St. would get the Lean
Virginia Tech hasn’t been the dominant program that we’ve been used to seeing over the past few seasons. As a matter of fact, they’ve gone a disappointing 1-6 in their last 7-games when facing a ranked opponent. There will be a big disparity in athleticism and team speed on Saturday, compared to what they saw a week ago from William & Mary. The strength of this Buckeye team is their defensive line which is one of the finest in all of college football. They will also be facing an opponent that’s won 25 regular season games in a row, and 64 straight home games versus non-conference unranked teams. Playing in Columbus before over 100,000 Buckeye loyalists can be a daunting task for any road team regardless of their reputation.

Why the Hokies would get the Lean
Ohio St. was far from impressive last week. The 4 new starters on the offensive line, and red-shirt freshmen quarterback A.J. Barrett were shaky at best in the first half, versus an undersized Navy defense. The Buckeyes won’t be able to wear down the Virginia Tech defense in the 2nd half the way they did against Navy. Ohio St. returned just 11% of their offense from a season ago, and they will be facing a Hokies stop unit that’s led by one of the nation’s best defensive coordinators in Bud Foster.

College Football Betting System
In preparing this free NCAAF pick, I looked at these important trends: any away underdog of 15.0 or less, versus an opponent that comes off a neutral site favorite ATS win in which they covered by 11.0 or less, and they’re playing in games 2 through 6 of the season, has gone 11-0 ATS since 1980. The underdog has won 7 of those 11-games outright.
