Michigan State looks to build off last week's romp past Eastern Michigan, and the Spartans are big favorites on the college football odds to do just that against Wyoming.

It's not very often that we see a round-robin completed between three teams this early on the college football betting schedule, but that's what we have as the Wyoming Cowboys travel to take on the No. 9 Michigan State Spartans.

The noon (ET) boot in East Lansing is on the ESPN2 docket for Saturday afternoon, this matchup leading into a Big Ten Conference collision between Minnesota and Michigan.  If the numbers showing up on SBR's live college football odds are any indication, this one should be decided well before the Golden Gophers and Wolverines tee things up.

It's the third meeting between the two football programs, the two previous clashes coming in 1976-77, and Michigan State is favored by 31 after the spread started a point higher. SBR's live college football odds caught the first total going out at 49, but that has fallen to 47.5 at most sports books.

The Cowboys and Spartans each reach this tilt with only one setback on their ledgers, and both losses came at the hands -- or webbed feet? -- of the Oregon Ducks.  Autzen Stadium in Eugene was the site for both affairs, the Ducks first rallying from a third-quarter hole to top Michigan State 46-27 in Week 2, and following that up with a 48-14 takedown of Wyoming a week later.

Cowboys Hope To Have Kirkegaard Under Center
At least Wyoming covered the spread against Oregon, something Michigan State couldn't do even after having a 9-point lead with 25 minutes to go.  Then again, the Cowboys were getting 43 vs. the Ducks, and might have needed more if Oregon had left its starters in the entire 60 minutes.

Wyoming backers weren't so lucky last week against Florida Atlantic, a game in which the Cowboys were favored by three at home in Laramie.  Craig Bohl's squad needed a field goal in the final 15 seconds to get the 20-19 win and avoid being upset outright.

Senior quarterback Colby Kirkegaard directed the Cowboys on the winning drive, but otherwise had a rather forgettable game completing just 10 of his 23 passes.  One of those, however, went for 88 yards to Dominic Rufran to set Wyoming up for the winning boot, and despite playing most of the game with a sore back, Kirkegaard is expected to start and play this week.

Sparty Can't Get Caught Looking Ahead To Nebraska
Michigan State took a week off after losing to Oregon, then came out an annihilated Eastern Michigan last Saturday, 73-14.  A complete mismatch from the start, the Spartans had the 43.5 point spread covered with a 49-0 lead at intermission, and tallied six takeaways from the Eagles, scoring 31 points off five of them.

About the only good feeling Mark Dantonio had after that rout was knowing his team came out of the game in relatively good health.  The Spartans used three different quarterbacks, starter Connor Cook only playing the first 15 minutes, and seven different running backs rolled up a combined for more than 300 yards rushing.

A lot can change between now and game time, but the current Saturday forecast is a good one for East Lansing.  Clear skies, the thermometer climbing into the upper-70s and only a light SE breeze should make for a great first official weekend of fall.

Dantonio spent a portion of his Tuesday press conference discussing how the new playoff system, and specifically expressing his desire to only see conference champions eligible for football's final four.  So we know he's already looking well past this matchup with Wyoming, and I suspect his team is looking a bit towards the game next week with Nebraska.  The Cowboys did me good in Oregon with a cover, and I'll make them my free college football pick once again.
