One of the late games on Saturday's college football betting slate finds San Diego State traveling to take on Oregon State.  Can the Aztecs upset the Beavers in Corvallis?

As far as the Week 4 schedule goes, the matchup between the San Diego State Aztecs and Oregon State Beavers isn't drawing a lot of attention from many college football fans as well as the media.

But as any college football bettor will tell you, any game with a spread and a total attached to it is just as important as the next contest.  Why, there's gold to be mined from each and every match, if the right pick is made, and in the case of the Aztecs and Beavers, the correct call is...

Well, let's hold off on that for a little while and learn a little more about this Pac-12, Mountain West interconference tussle.  For starters, kickoff comes a little past 10:30 PM (ET) and can be seen on FOX Sports 1.  Oregon State opened at -10, and that spread has been stagnant so far.  The total has been anything but stagnant, beginning at 56 before being bet up to 59.5 at last check on SBR's live college football odds.

It's the fifth meeting on the gridiron between the two schools, the Aztecs winning a pair back in the 70s and the Beavers taking both the 2000 and 2013 matchups.  Favored by a touchdown last year in San Diego, Oregon State found itself trailing by 13 entering the final quarter before SDSU got sloppy and allowed the Beavers to rally for a 34-30 win.  The final fell just short of the total, one of four 'unders' the Aztecs opened the '13 schedule with.

Aztecs Look To Bounce Back Following Loss To UNC
San Diego State entered last year's tilt having lost its first two games, and head coach Rocky Long's crew had a shot two weeks ago to reverse that and bring a 2-0 record into this meeting.  But again, it was sloppy play and turnovers that cost the Aztecs.  Senior QB Quinn Kaehler was intercepted three times, one returned 100 yards for a score and the other ending a drive for the winning score in the final seconds of the 31-27 loss to the North Carolina Tar Heels, who are matched up against East Carolina this week.

Kaehler also threw a Pick 6 that decided last season's game against Oregon State, and he's going to have to keep from turning it over to the Beavers if SDSU has a shot in this scrap.  He's also not going to have one of his favorite targets the past two seasons, Ezell Ruffin, after the senior wideout broke his collarbone in the loss to UNC, and won't be back until mid-November at the earliest.

Even with Ruffin, Kaehler's task wasn't going to be an easy one against an Oregon State defense that has been a bit stingy so far.  The Beavers are among the top teams in the country allowing just 550 yards in their first two games combined, with seven takeaways as well.

Beavers Rested After Scare In Hawaii
Mike Riley has OSU off to a 2-0 start, and off a bye week following a close win in Hawaii on the Week 2 schedule.  Riley put many of his second-teamers in with a 38-7 lead entering the final quarter, and it almost cost the Beavers as the Warriors mounted a furious comeback that just fell short, 38-30.  A short punt set up one late Hawaii score, and a fumble on the ensuing kickoff aided another as Beaver backers watched their -9.5 point tickets go by the wayside for the 2nd-straight game.

Oregon State was held to just 10 yards on the ground by the Aztecs last season, and we should look for a much higher output this time behind the tailback tandem of Terron Ward and Storm Woods.  Both have a 100-yard game to their credit already, and should be big parts of the offense throughout the affair.

The weatherman is calling for a pretty warm afternoon in Corvallis on Saturday, the thermometer reaching into the low-90s before settling back in the mid-70s by kickoff.  There's no mention of rain and the field at Reser Stadium should be in great condition.

The Beavers have recently shown a tendency to cover road games but fail to cash at home, making the Aztecs plus the points a tempting play.  My free college football pick, however will be on the final score never breaching the total.
