We preview Saturday's matchup between North Texas and SMU and share our College Football picks for a game that has upset potential. Find oud why we believe that the Mean Green could spoil the party for the Mustangs Saturday.
Somewhere someone has to be pounding SMU. The public is reacing strangley in part because of how bad the mean green looked on the road last year. According to SBR's College Football odds page, this game opened as a PK and has quickly risen to the home town Mustangs of Southern Methodist. They are holding at a 4.5 point chalk. This is quite a move even for a lesser college football game. This screams fade the line move and at worst tease up North Texas and get 10.5 points and never sweat the whole game as they should be outright winners. It seems as if Jerry Jones and company hammered mustangs for 250k plus to force this move. He did this for SMU basketball games too and we all see how those mustangs ended up in the gutter. All the rich Dallas alumni and residents are pounded the shit out of SMU. This has us shaking our head in dis-belief and we are all over the mean green in this game. The total sits at 59, as they are expecting a high scoring game.
Former Conference USA foes, SMU and North Texas, renew acquaintances this Saturday on the Hilltop. The Mean Green will be playing for the first time in 2015, hoping to put last season’s four-win stumble behind it as quickly as possible. The Mustangs hope to build off of an impressive first half versus Baylor by handing Chad Morris his first victory as a college head coach.
Taking a closer look at the Mean Green of Northern Texas, The Mean Green is ready to surround senior QB Andrew McNulty with more weapons than he had a year ago, namely backs Jeffrey Wilson and Antoinne Jimmerson, WR Carlos Henderson and TE Marcus Smith. SMU has plenty of room for growth on defense, and not just because it was gashed in the opener by Baylor. Look for more similair results from the Mean Green.
Will make a small argument for why the Mustangs should be taken, but keep in mind here are liking is on the Mean Green, we are only bring to play devils advocate here. Matt Davis of SMU seems to love the size of 6-4 rookie WR Courtland Sutton, who caught two touchdown passes in the opener. But now he has to make better use of veteran RB Darius Joseph, who had a quiet start to the year. Yeah, the Mustangs were routed by Baylor, but Morris’ offense flashed life. Matt Davis looks like the right quarterback to operate the coach’s system, with his ability to scramble out of pressure and make throws on the move. It’s going to benefit SMU to have popped pads and been tested. Plus, North Texas was an awful road team in 2014.
Our College Football Picks
Now on to our college football picks for this matchup. Neither defense has defensive stalwarts, so the offenses will get chance to move the sticks. Look for a very critical late score to pull the Mean Green as outright ML victories on Saturday night in Dallas.
