Coming off their first loss of the season the TCU Horned Frogs are huge favorites on the college football odds this Saturday when the host the Kansas Jayhawks.

Oh my! The Kansas Jayhawks have apparently picked a lousy time to have to go up against the TCU Horned Frogs.

Winless in nine tries and immersed in a 12-game losing skid that stretches back to the last time the played TCU, the Jayhawks travel to Ft. Worth to take on a group of Horned Frogs that are coming off their first loss of the season. FOX Sports 1 has the noon (ET) telecast that finds TCU backers required to lay 45½ points after the spread initially was opened by BetOnline at -43. The total is 70.5 at the same shop.

These two played quite often back when the Frogs were part of the Southwest Conference and Kansas was in the Big 6/7/8. The rivalry dates to 1942, Texas Christian owning a 19-8-4 overall advantage and winning all three matchups as Big 12 foes.

None of TCU's Big 12 wins has been anything close to the runaway the current college football odds suggest. The margins of victory by the Horned Frogs have been 14, 10 and four, last year's 34-30 decision in Lawrence requiring a late rally by TCU after trailing by 10 in the third quarter.

The Frogs were favored by at least 20 in each of the last three encounters, including a 27-17 triumph as 24½ point favorites at Amon G. Carter Stadium in 2013. The first two Big 12 meetings stayed 'under' before the 2014 get-together skipped past a 55 point total.

Jayhawks Appear Headed For Winless Campaign
Kansas (0-9 straight up, 1-7-1 against the spread) has yet to grab a win for 1st-year head coach David Beaty, and it certainly doesn't look good this week. The next two games against West Virginia and Kansas State don't hold much promise either, though the Jayhawks will be at home for each matchup.

Beaty might also have to send out his backup quarterback this week with Ryan Willis listed as questionable due to a groin injury. Willis has been starting since Montell Cozart injured his shoulder in the loss to Iowa State in Week 4, and Cozart is not expected back this year. If Willis can't make it, Beaty could platoon junior Deondre Ford or redshirt freshman Keaton Perry under center.

Things haven't gone right for the Jayhawks since a season-opening loss to South Dakota State of the Missouri Valley Conference, the Jackrabbits actually favored by 2 in Lawrence for that one. At least Kansas was providing a good 'under' return early on, four of the first five lined games never making it to the total. The last three have gone 'over' the mark, however, and each time the Jayhawks' opponents sent it 'over' by themselves.

Horned Frogs Still Have Outside Shot At Playoffs
Embarrassed 49-29 by the unbeaten Oklahoma State Cowboys last week in Stillwater, TCU (8-1 SU, 4-5 ATS) comes home to lick its wounds. The Horned Frogs might be without stud receiver Josh Doctson who was downgraded to doubtful earlier this week. Doctson, who leads the nation with over 1,300 yards receiving, injured his wrist in the first half of the loss to Oklahoma State last week.

The Frogs only have themselves to blame for last week's debacle, beating Okie State in almost every meaningful statistical column except points and turnovers. Trevone Boykin's four interceptions turned into 21 points for the Cowboys, a big factor in the game. But the TCU defense also shoulders the blame with some miscommunications that resulted in three OSU touchdown catches of 48 yards or more.

There is a slight chance of rain in Cowtown Saturday afternoon with temps in the low-to-mid 60s, but the weather shouldn't be a factor in this one. Instead, whether Gary Patterson will let his Frogs hop free to a very lopsided victory is a bigger concern for bettors. I'm inclined to believe a better choice is the 'over' for my free college football pick.
