Syracuse will find things difficult in closing out a two-game road trip Saturday, which provides Clemson betting value as double-digit favorites in Death Valley.

Back in the Win Column
Syracuse snapped a four-game losing streak in picking up a 30-7 victory over the Wake Forest Demon Deacons as six-point road favorites last Saturday, but it now lands in a awful situation in traveling to Clemson Memorial Stadium.

The Orange played back-to-back road games twice during the 2013 campaign, which is important to consider when making your college football picks, as they were outscored by a combined 115-3 margin on the back end of those trips.

It’s important to point out that the school is 0-2 SUATS in its last two opportunities as underdogs of 10.5 to 21 points.

Homecoming Favorite
Clemson’s senior-laden defense ranks fifth in the country in allowing just 282.7 yards per game, which can’t be ignored when looking over the college football odds, as it prepares to face a true freshman quarterback Saturday night.

The Tigers have one of the best defensive lines in the country, which spells trouble for an Orange offense that has had seven different combinations up front in seven contests, especially with senior Vic Beasley rushing the passer off the edge.

Over the last two-plus seasons, the program is 24-1 SU and 15-9-1 ATS as favorites, with the UNDER going 12-10-3 in that situation.

Securing the Football
The Orange haven’t lost a fumble in over 246 minutes of action, but they’ll be facing a stop unit that leads the country in third-down defense.

Syracuse will struggle to move the football in its third true road game of the season, which will provide Clemson short fields offensively due to its forgettable 34.3 net punting average.

Senior Class
I’ve already touched upon the importance of this game for the defense, but Tigers signal-caller Cole Stoudt will be comfortable in his surroundings, as his senior class has compiled a 23-2 SU record at this venue.

The Tigers have won 23 consecutive games against unranked opponents, while they’ve played smart football the entire year in being penalized just 27 times—half the number of their Week 9 opponent.

I’m going to recommend that readers back the Tigers as one of my top free picks this weekend, as they’ve gone 11-0 SU and 8-2-1 ATS as favorites of 10.5 to 21 points in their last 11 opportunities.
