The college football season now has a bowl season which lasts for two whole weeks. The second week of the bowls begins this upcoming Saturday with our college football picks.

Sun Bowl: Miami Hurricanes vs. Washington State Cougars
This is a game in which Washington State quarterback Luke Falk, injured late in the season in a game against Colorado, will play for the Cougars. Falk’s absence caused Washington State to get blown out of the Apple Cup, its rivalry game against the University of Washington. However, with Falk back in the saddle, the temptation will be to say that Washington State’s offense will be back to normal. That’s a reasonable point of view, but it might not be the right one. Falk will probably be rusty. Bettors must also consider the possibility that Falk might bail out early on plays so that he avoids or at least minimizes the amount of hits he takes. He will probably not enjoy the crisp rhythm he had established with his receivers. It could be a case of Washington State playing a bad first half on offense before finally getting going in the second half.

Miami has an interim coach before Mark Richt takes over the team. That’s rarely if ever a situation in which an offense is likely to perform well. When you look at this game from both sides, the offenses are not in position to do their best. Take the under here.

Pinstripe Bowl: Indiana Hoosiers vs. Duke Blue Devils
The key point to make here is that Duke’s defense got blown away by most teams in the second half of the season. The Blue Devils were out of place and scrambling to be in position, usually much too late and without the adjustments needed to be successful. Duke’s defense watched, week after week, as it failed to live up to its own expectations. For the past month, the Blue Devils have heard from their coaches about what they need to do to get better. They have also witnessed their former offensive coordinator, Scottie Montgomery, become the new head coach at East Carolina. Duke’s defense knows just how much it needs to step up and play big in this game. Expect a good effort from the Blue Devils, who do not have a very strong offense. If you are sold on the belief that Duke will play a decent game on defense, this game should definitely go under with your college football picks.

Foster Farms Bowl: Nebraska Cornhuskers vs. UCLA Bruins
It’s easy to think this game will be a shootout. These offenses are explosive and talented. However, Nebraska and UCLA have been very inconsistent over the course of the season. Bettors have seen these teams play well one week and then struggle the next, especially for a Nebraska team which is one of three losing teams to get a bowl bid. Quarterbacks Tommy Armstrong for Nebraska and Josh Rosen of UCLA are great when they’re focused and playing well. They both have a lot of upside. However, that upside coexists with a lot of flaws that often come to the surface. After a month of rust, these offenses probably won’t be as sharp as they need to be. UCLA should also get some players healthy on defense after an injury-wrecked season. Go with the under the college football odds here.
