Tuesday Night College Football in the Sun Belt
Arkansas State (3-3) will host UL-Lafayette (2-3) on Tuesday in a Sun Belt Conference battle. The opening kickoff at Liberty Bank Stadium in Jonesboro, Arkansas is slated for 8:00 PM ET, and the game will be aired by ESPN2. Current (10/19) college football betting odds at 5Dimes indicate that Arkansas State is a 7.0 point favorite. At the time of this writing there was no posted total on this game. UL-Lafayette has gone 2-0 SU&ATS in the last two seasons against Arkansas State, and they were installed as an underdog in each of those games.

Beware of those Ragin’ Cajuns
UL-Lafayette has displayed an impressive and balanced offensive attack through their first five games. They’re averaging 231 yards on the ground and another 202 via its passing game. The Ragin’ Cajuns are averaging an outstanding 5.9 yards per rush, and a stellar 6.2 yards per passing attempt.

Red Wolves with Momentum
The Arkansas State Red Wolves opened the season 1-3. However, those three losses came at the hands of USC, Missouri, and #19 Toledo. Those three defeats weren’t exactly against cream puffs. The flip side to that equation, their wins have come against Missouri State (FCS team), Idaho, and South Alabama. That’s hardly a trio of victories that will make one stand up and notice.

Betting Angle and Selection
Both of these teams are coming off stellar performances in their previous games. UL-Lafayette walloped Texas State 49-27 as a 4.0 point home favorite. Arkansas State was a 49-31 winner at South Alabama while covering easily as a 3.5 point road favorite. The combination of those two results sets up an outstanding betting angle.

Any conference underdog (UL-Lafayette) of 3.5 to 9.5, coming off a conference win by 10 points or more, and they have a winning percentage of less than .800, versus an opponent (Arkansas State) coming off a conference road game in which both teams scored 31 points or more, resulted in the underdog going 27-3 ATS (90%) since 1996. The underdog also won 15 of those 30 contests outright. I’m going to follow this straightforward handicapping logic when make one of my college football picks this week.

College Football Pick: Play on UL-Lafayette +7.0 at 5Dimes.
