The Marshall Thundering Herd are expected to run the table this season, but that doesn’t mean they should be one of your college football betting picks against the FIU Golden Panthers.

Hammering Opponents
Marshall is 6-0 SU and 5-1 ATS through six games in 2014, which can’t be ignored when looking over the college footbal odds, as it has yet to trail in a contest this year.

The Thundering Herd are outscoring opponents by a 173-30 margin in the opening 30 minutes of games, while they happen to be the only team in the country to average at least 266 passing and rushing yards per game.

Over the last two-plus seasons, the program is 20-4 SU and 12-10 ATS as favorites, with the OVER going 12-7 in that situation.

Game of the Year
FIU has lost the statistical battle in six of seven games, as it looks to bounce back from a 16-13 setback to the UTSA Roadrunners as nine-point road underdogs last Saturday, but it has compiled a 6-1 ATS record this season.

The Golden Panthers lead the nation with 24 takeaways, which is important to consider when making your college football against-the-spread picks, as this is undoubtedly the team’s biggest game of the 2014 campaign.

It’s important to point out that this group is 20-7 ATS in its last 27 games after allowing 20 or fewer points in their previous affair.

A Major Achievement
Thundering Herd signal-caller Rakeem Cato is often overlooked in the Heisman Trophy odds, but he’s thrown a touchdown pass in 38 straight games, which has tied Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson for the NCAA record in that category.

In last year’s 48-10 win over FIU as 32-point road favorites, Cato completed 15-of-31 passes for 241 yards and four touchdowns.

Making Plays Defensively
The Golden Panthers are 23rd in the country in allowing just 327.0 yards per game, which ends up being the top statistical defense in Conference USA, with the group leading all teams with 16 fumble recoveries.

A big reason for the unit’s improvement has been experience, as it welcomed back 14 student-athletes that combined for 97 starts in 2013.

I’m going to recommend that readers back the Golden Panthers as one of their Week 8 college football picks, as the Thundering Herd are 3-7-1 ATS as road favorites the last two-plus seasons.

Sports bettors need to keep a close eye on the betting total, as Marshall failed to cover two games by an average of 10.5 points in this situation a year ago when the number stayed at 56.5 or below.
