The Stanford Cardinal and the No. 20 Utah Utes clash this Saturday night in a Pac-12 matchup at Rice-Eccles Stadium in Salt Lake. Game time on FOX Sports 1 is set for 10:15 p.m. (ET).The Cardinal face a Utah ballclub that has won 14 of its last 17 games at home straight-up.

Game Overview

Stanford improved its SU record to 3-2 with last Saturday’s 34-24 victory at home against Arizona State, but it failed to cover as a 16.5-point favorite to fall to 2-3 against the spread. The total stayed UNDER 59 points in last week’s win after going OVER in three of its first four games. The Cardinal will head back on the road with a SU 12-3 record in their last 15 road games.

The lingering question mark for Stanford is quarterback Keller Chryst’s playing status for Saturday night after missing his last start with a concussion. If he cannot go, look for KJ Costello to get the call. He completed 15 of his 24 passing attempts last week against Arizona State for 173 yards and a score. Stanford did all of its damage in that game on the ground with 328 yards rushing and three touchdowns on 33 attempts. Bryce Love was basically unstoppable with 301 yards on 25 carries for an average of 12 yards a run.

The Utes have successfully navigated their way through their first four games both SU and ATS after closing as favorites in each outing. The total stayed UNDER 61.5 points two weeks ago in a 30-24 victory against Arizona as five-point road favorites and it has stayed UNDER in three of their first four games. Returning home off the bye week, the total has stayed UNDER in 12 of Utah’s last 18 games in Salt Lake.

Sophomore quarterback Tyler Huntly went down with a shoulder injury his last time out and his playing status remains up in the air for Saturday. Troy Williams took over the reins against Arizona and he completed nine of 18 passing attempts for 131 yards to help secure the win. The Utes are averaging 442.8 yards of total offense per game and they are tied for 39th in the nation in scoring with an average of 35 points per game. Their defense moves to 18th in points allowed (17.3).

Betting Trends

-The Cardinal are 1-5 ATS in their last six games against a team with an SU winning record and they have failed to cover in their last four games following an SU win. The total has stayed UNDER in four of their last five Pac-12 games.

-The Utes have covered ATS in five of their last seven home games and they are 5-1 ATS in their last six games coming off an SU win. The total has stayed UNDER in six of their last eight home games against a team with an SU winning record on the road.

-Head-to-head in this conference clash, Utah has won the last three meetings both SU and ATS with the total staying UNDER in all three games.

Final Analysis

With Love leading the way, you know that Stanford is going to try and run the ball down Utah’s throat all night long, but it will be going up against the toughest defense it has faced this season. I believe the Utes have something going this year in the Pac-12 and the fact that SBR Odds has this team getting 4.5 points at home only makes this NCAAF pick all the more easier to make. Take the points and take Utah in an SU victory.
