Welcome to our 2016 College Football analysis on this site!  As this bureau begins its 37th consecutive year of football analyses, we look to use our experience and expertise for yet another in a long line of successful winning seasons.

Army vs Temple (-16)

What a season for a Temple Owls team last year under 4th year HC Rhule!  After 6 seasons under the guidance of respected mentors, Al Golden and Steve Addazio, Rhule took over the Temple program at the start of the 2013 season. Since that time, he has taken the Owls from 2 to 6 to 10 wins. Last year, they began the season a perfect 7-0 SU. Then, nearly stole one as “ESPN Home Dog” losing 24-20 to Notre Dame as 12 point pup. Though the season ended on a downer with playoff and Bowl losses to Houston (24-13) and Toledo (32-17), it was clear that the Owls had made great improvement. In the last 2 seasons, Temple has allowed their opponents an average of only 18 PPG and 342 YPG. QB Walker leads 6 returning offensive starters for new OC Glen Thomas (last year’s QB coach). And with DC Snow in his 4th year, it figures that 6 returning defenders will likewise continue their ascent. But to lay double digits against an improving Army team in a game where few points are projected (total of 46), could have chalk players sweating all night!

Army is in the 3rd year of HC Monken. Though the Knights slipped to 2-10 SU last season, it was with just 10 returning starters. They were still outscored by an average of 28-22 and outgained only 377-338. I am well aware that Army has been one of the nation’s worst travelers with a long-term record of 4-20 ATS. But, they turned that around last year, going 4-2 ATS. This year, the Knights have 16 RS for Monken and figure to have their most potent offense in a number of years. Note that 7 of last year’s losses were by a TD or less and that I project this team to notably improve on each side of the ball. Make this your ICE GAME OF THE WEEK, as I love Big Dogs who play with (I)ntention (C)onviction and who (E)xecute well. That is certainly the case with military schools as a rule and in particular this week, an Army team who returns 16 starters. In a low-scoring contest, grab the Big Dog and the points!
