Two teams with stellar defenses hook up for the national championship Monday, and after a month of waiting, we are only days away from college football’s biggest game.

NCAAF Picks: BCS National Championship total pick

We have already gone over my spread pick for this game, and now it’s time for the total.

NCAAF Odds for this game have the spread favoring the Crimson Tide at -10 with an over/under of 40 points. While it may seem like a low total, I’m here to say that it looks just right.

I’m on the under for a couple of reasons. First and foremost, the defenses from these two teams in no way are going to give up a ton of points. The Notre Dame defense has been next to impermeable this season, while the ‘Bama defense picked up right where they left off last season.

Even though I really like Bama to win and cover in this game, I’m thinking they won’t score more than 20-25 points. However, I also believe that the run first offense led by a redshirt freshman for Notre Dame is going to get slowed to almost a complete stop by the Tide. I can’t see that style of offense scoring many touchdowns, and I think the Irish are going to have to settle for three points more than normal, as will Bama most likely.

I’m foreseeing a 24-9 or 23-10 type of game in favor of the Crimson Tide. The Irish are a great story this season, and it’s good to see them back to relevance, but the Tide will roll and the under will cash for the BCS game Monday.
