When it comes to providing a good betting angle and a solid College Football Pick, you can't get any simpler than this. Bet on the better QB getting points in Norfolk VA.

The UMass Minutemen visit the Old Dominion Monarchs Friday night at 8 pm eastern. This matchup was originally slated for Saturday night but was moved up a day due to hurricane Matthew. In last week’s game ODU’s quarterback David Washington threw for 256 yards and three touchdowns, Jeremy Cox scored a career-high three touchdowns and the Monarch defense was stellar as ODU shredded Charlotte 52-17. I would strongly recommend treading lightly with ODU before you start to anoint the Monarchs as a Conference USA contender. To put this win into context. It was against arguably the worst team in FBS and would likely be pretty far down the FCS power ratings at that. I am very cautious of putting too much emphasis on a blowout win against a far inferior opponent in the Charlotte 49ers.

UMass is coming off of back to back hard fought closely contested losses against Mississippi State and Tulane. For UMass to be able to go toe to toe with a SEC West division foe into the fourth quarter says a lot about how far this program has come under head coach Mark Whipple. To follow it up with a tough output against a very underrated squad in Tulane, I believe the betting markets are undervaluing the Minutemen. Head coach Mark Whipple said that both QB’s will see time Friday night, which can go one of two ways for a team’s offensive production. Both Ross Comis and Andrew Ford are positive attitude guys who have both shown the ability to make plays and lead the offense. After igniting the offense against Florida International and Mississippi State, Andrew Ford struggled in Saturday’s 31-24 loss to Tulane. Ross Comis, who hadn’t even dressed the past two weeks with a shoulder injury, sparked the Minutemen. He had six runs for 41 yards and led two fourth-quarter scoring drives. Coach Whipple should be able to play the hot hand against likely the weakest defense UMass has seen all year.

Old Dominion talent wise is down a bit from years past at the quarterback position. The Monarchs inflated offensive stats are almost all against the likes of FCS opponent Hampton and FBS bottom tier teams in UTSA and Charlotte. With clear skies and little to moderate the wind during the calm before the storm (literally speaking), the UMass offense should be able to have success through the air. I recommend a wager on the underdog Minutemen who could walk out of Foreman Field with an outright win, but if not that backdoor will likely be open. My College Football Pick is UMass +8 (-110) at 5Dimes.
