Our NCAA football betting odds guru has started the year by going 15-4 right here at SBR Picks & we expect this to continue in this forecast for Utah State vs. BYU.

Friday Night Lights in Provo
The BYU Cougars will host the Utah State Aggies on Friday at LaVell Edwards Stadium in Provo, Utah. The game will nationally by ESPN, and the kickoff is slated for 10:15 PM ET. According to NCAA football betting odds, there was no line posted at the time of this writing due to the uncertain status of Utah State starting quarterback Chuckie Keeton. The Aggies signal caller injured his knee in the 36-24 home win over Wake Forest on 9/13. Before making your College Football pick for this match, understand that these teams have seen their last 7 meetings go under the total. Utah State has covered 5 of the last 6 in their series with BYU.

Aggies Trying to Regain the Swagger
The good news is the Aggies are coming off a week of rest after a tough 21-14 overtime loss at Arkansas St. Sophomore backup quarterback Darrell Garretson accounted himself very well in the loss, going 27/46 in the air for 268-yards, 2-touchdowns, and 1-interception. The defeat dropped Utah State to 2-2 on the year. The Aggies have seen their first two road games this season both go under the total, and they were 0-2 SU&ATS in those contests. They’ve gone a terrific 20-8-1 ATS since the start of the 2012 season. The Aggies defense is 4th best in the country against the run allowing just 78.0 yards per contest.

Cougars Looking for Respect
Despite their 4-0 start to the season, including a #18 ranking in the latest AP poll, BYU will be playing with a chip on their shoulders, and rest assured they’ll not be resting on their laurels any time soon. There’s a good chance that even if they happen to run the table and go undefeated, there’s a very real possibility of being snubbed by the NCAA playoff committee due to what will be considered to be a very soft schedule. The only game that the Cougars may not be a favorite the rest of the way will be at Boise State on 10/24, and that’s even very debatable. They we able to knock off 2-opponents this season that come from the so called “Power 5” conferences, winning at Texas, and at home versus Virginia. They will also have to play in Berkley versus the California Golden Bears in their final regular season game. However, even if they were to defeat California, none of those 3-wins would be considered attention getters. The most realistic hope is being invited to one of the six New Year’s Day major bowl games. None of those 6 bowl games just mentioned, are part of the 4-team playoffs that will ultimately crown a national champion.

The Selection
My current power rankings show that if Chuckie Keeton plays for Utah State in this game, BYU would be approximately a 22.5 point favorite on College Football odds. If he can’t, the Cougars would be somewhere between a 25.0 and 27.0 point favorite. This isn’t as good a Utah State team that we’ve witnessed over the past 2-seasons. I’m looking for BYU to play their best game at home this season, and what better time than in front of a national television audience, and against an in state rival who’s become a relevant program.
