ACC Spotlight: No. 16 N.C. State at No. 3 Clemson (-17)

Saturday, 3:30 p.m. ET, on ESPN

Free NCAAF Pick: Clemson ATS

Best Line Offered: Heritage

[/]{"component":"oddswidget", "eventId":3448809, "sportsbooksIds":[169,238,19,93,1096], "LineTypeId":1, "PeriodTypeId":1}[/]

N.C. State (5-0 SU, 3-1-1 ATS) is undefeated through the first five games for just the second time in the last 25 years. A string of home dates and a mature, efficient passing game is the catalyst.

The Wolfpack, which have played four of five at Carter-Finley Stadium, ranks ninth nationally with 9.4 yards per passing attempt. Senior QB Ryan Finley is one of the better game managers under center, and he rarely gets in trouble. He’s tossed 27 TDs and 9 INTs in his last 666 collegiate passes. Moreover, a stout O-line has seen him hit the turf twice all year. N.C. State’s 0.68 sack percentage allowed ranks second in the country

Clemson (6-0 SU, 2-4 ATS) has struggled to put away the Pack in recent meetings, despite reaching the College Football Playoffs the last two seasons. In 2016, N.C. State missed a 33-yard field goal to win it in the final seconds, a game the Tigers eventually won 24-17 in overtime. Clemson kicked off a 20-point favorite for that one.

Last year, a late-game procedural penalty against the Pack stunted a comeback effort in a 38-31 home defeat catching 7.5 points. Altogether, Finley’s thrown for 569 yards. 3 TDs, and 4 picks on 90 attempts.

Swinney’s defense shuts down ACC rivals with efficient passing games. Clemson is 13-6 ATS all-time against opponents averaging better than 8.5 yards per attempt entering. When foes are unable to also lean on a running game, posting less than 300 rushing yards per contest, Swinney’s betting record moves to 10-2 ATS with a 5.2 margin above the number.

Look for the Tigers to jump to a lead and take advantage guarding a one-dimensional air attack late. The Wolfpack defense is not as stout as the last couple of meetings, and Clemson should be able to light up the board for a second game in a row. Lay the points.

[/]{"component": "embedHTML", "code": "

107 wins. 4 ACC Titles. 2016 National Championship.

The Best is Yet to Come.

#ALLIN 🐅🐾 ;/a>
— Clemson Football (@ClemsonFB) October 13, 2018
\n\n"}[/]

Around the ACC (All Games Saturday)

North Carolina at Syracuse (-10.5), 12:20 p.m. ET, on ACC Network

Syracuse (4-2 SU, 5-1 ATS) has kicked off a home favorite once in ACC play under head coach Dino Babers, narrowly beating Pitt 27-24 as 3.5-point chalk in 2017. The -10.5 opener dwarfs that number. North Carolina (1-4 SU, 2-2-1 ATS), meanwhile, is 2-8 SU and 3-7 ATS catching more than a touchdown against conference foes on the road all-time behind Larry Fedora.

Virginia at Duke (-8.5), 12:30 p.m. ET, on ACC Network

Duke (5-1 SU, 4-2 ATS) looks to avenge a 34-20 loss the last time Virginia (4-2 SU, 5-1 ATS) invaded Wallace Wade Stadium in 2016. The Blue Devils, then sporting a four-game home win streak in the series, gifted six turnovers in defeat. The Cavaliers, for what it’s worth, are just 2-10 SU and 4-8 ATS on the road after winning outright as a home underdog since 1996.

Wake Forest at Florida State (-10.5), 3:30 p.m. ET, on ESPN2

Since the start of 2017, Florida State (3-3 SU, 2-4 ATS) is 4-8 SU and 1-10-1 ATS against ACC rivals. Let that sink in. Wake Forest (3-3 SU, 1-5 ATS) is coming off its worst defeat in the modern era, losing to Clemson 63-3 last time out. The blowout just edged a 72-13 rout by the Seminoles in 1995.
