North Carolina (-2) vs. Pitt 7:00PM ET ESPN
The North Carolina Tar Heels travel to Pittsburgh to face the Panthers in a critical ACC contest. Each of these teams is 6-1 SU for the season and undefeated in league play. They join Clemson and Duke as the only undefeated teams in the ACC. When these teams met last season, North Carolina won (40-35) in a game where each team ran and passed for 218 or more yards. While each of these teams struggled to 6-7 SU records last season, they have turned around their fortunes dramatically this year. Much of it has come for each team on the defensive side of the ball.

Last year, the Tar Heels allowed 39 PPG and 498 yards, including 241 YPG both rushing and passing. To improve on those numbers, 4th year North Carolina HC Fedora added new DC Chizik, the former HC at Auburn. The addition of Chizik has worked – to a degree. North Carolina is now allowing only 17 PPG on only 350 YPG. There remain issues at the point of attack, where Carolina allows 213/4.6 overland. Every team they have played has rushed for 190 or more yards against the Carolina defensive front. That will be their undoing in this game. The question is whether the prolific North Carolina offense, led by dynamic QB Williams, can keep pace?  For, the Tar Heel offense is a 200 CLUB member, averaging 38 PPG.

On the other side of the line of scrimmage, they will meet a Pitt Panther defense, whose fortunes have changed dramatically with the addition of 1st year HC Narduzzi, the long-time DC at Michigan St. He has brought a focus of the running game and great defense to the Panthers. Pitt is allowing just 21 PPG on only 309 YPG (among the best in the country). Narduzzi has also focused his attention on the running game, which averages 172 RYPG. The addition of Tennessee transfer, QB Peterson, has seen him become a solid game manager.

Playing home underdogs with the better defense and running game will make you a lot of money in CFB!  When that ground game lines up against a defensive front that allows 213/4.6, it is a solid recipe for success. Tune in tonight at 7:00 pm ET on ESPN to watch the Cats as dog claw their way to victory against the visiting Tar Heels. I invite you to put the college football odds in your favor and join me for my college football pick on the Pittsburgh. Panthers growl!
