The Frisco Bowl is the successor to the Miami Beach Bowl, moving to Toyota Stadium in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. The American Athletic Conference has a tie-in through the 2021 season, and this year, the Mid-American Conference owned an automatic invite. All AAC eligible teams skipped with Central Florida playing LSU on New Year’s Day. This opened the door for the Aztecs at-large bid.
