Our college football analyst previews Saturday’s huge contest between Notre Dame & Stanford. Go inside to read this extremely insightfull article with his college football pick.

Mammoth College Football Non-Conference Battle
Stanford (9-2) will host Notre Dame (10-1) on Saturday in an elite non-conference matchup with relevant college football playoff implications. The opening kickoff in Palo Alto, California is slated for 7:30 PM ET. Current college football odds, shows Stanford as a 4 point favorite, and the posted total is 56. Notre Dame defeated Stanford 17-14 in South Bend last season.

Do or Die for Notre Dame
Despite winning 20-17 last week at Boston College, Notre Dame dropped from 4th to 6th in the college football playoff rankings. In an era when style points are given a lot of weight, Notre Dame was hurt by their narrow margin of victory last Saturday against an opponent that was just 3-7 at the time. Well that won’t be the case this week against 9th ranked Stanford. The Cardinal still has an outside chance of eventually cracking the top four. There’s no two ways about it, Notre Dame has to win on Saturday, or they could kiss their college football playoff hopes goodbye. Even with a win, there are no assurances, but it certainly would enhance their chances.

Golden Opportunity for Cardinal
Stanford is currently the highest ranked two loss team in the college football playoff poll. There only setbacks this season came in their opener against Northwestern (#16) and two weeks ago versus Oregon (#17). Stanford has won 15 straight home games over non-conference opponents. Ironically, the last non-conference loss they suffered at home came on 11/24/2007 against Notre Dame. The Cardinal rebounded from that disappointing loss to Oregon, by defeating California 35-22 at home last Saturday. Stanford has gone an extremely profitable 8-2 ATS during their previous ten games.

Final Analysis
The odds makers are obviously not overly enthralled with Notre Dame based on this current point spread. This is one of those rare times when you’ll see the lower rated team being better than a field goal favorite, versus a higher ranked club this late in the season. Ordinarily I wouldn’t take the bait. However, there’s just too much on the line for Notre Dame to pass on them as an underdog in this spot, and they’ll be one of my college football picks this week.
