Vegas Golden Knights
Outside of dealing away winger Max Pacioretty to the Carolina Hurricanes in a salary dump, it was a quiet day for the Golden Knights. Vegas is still up against the salary cap, and the work is far from complete.
After missing the playoffs last year, it’s a little surprising the Golden Knights are still receiving plenty of respect from bookmakers, and especially considering their salary-cap predicament.
Ottawa Senators
To fully appreciate the line movement for Ottawa, the Sens were +10000 to win the Stanley Cup when Caesars initially released odds for the market June 15.
Since, Ottawa has traded for winger Alex DeBrincat and goaltender Cam Talbot, and signed veteran forward Claude Giroux.
The Senators have expedited their rebuild and could push for a playoff spot next year.
Detroit Red Wings
It’s already been a busy offseason for the Red Wings. They’ve signed forwards Andrew Copp, David Perron and Dominik Kubalik, defensemen Ben Chiarot, Olli Maatta and Mark Pysyk, and traded for goalie Ville Husso.
Say that 10 times fast.
While Detroit is probably still not ready to do much more than contend for a playoff berth, general manager Steve Yzerman has made a statement the past two weeks.
Anaheim Ducks
Inking center Ryan Strome hardly moves the needle, and Anaheim saw its Stanley Cup odds dip as a result.
The team is loaded with young talents, and there is plenty of cap space available, so it’s clear the organization is going to take its time with its rebuild.
Of course, they could also still attack some of the available talents in the outstanding free-agent market.
Columbus Blue Jackets
The Blue Jackets were the surprise winners of the Johnny Gaudreau sweepstakes, and as a result, their Stanley Cup odds shortened significantly.
Still, the organization has plenty to do before it makes legitimate noise in the spring.
Landing Gaudreau may be a step in the right direction, but now what?
