It’s a potential playoff preview from Wrigley Field as the Cubs lead the NL Central and the Diamondbacks are currently a wild-card team. In 2015, the Cubbies traded for Arizona catcher Miguel Montero and one of the pieces sent to the desert was minor-league pitcher Zack Godley. He gets the call here. Only five current Cubs players have seen Godley (4-4, 3.06) in an MLB game. Godley comes off one of the best starts of his career, shutting out the Cardinals on four hits over seven innings with seven strikeouts. Chicago’s Jake Arrieta (10-7, 4.03) has pitched much better since the calendar flipped to July in allowing three earned runs or fewer in five straight starts. He’s 3-1 with a 2.25 ERA in that stretch.
College Football Deep Dive Part 1 With Rob Veno
Are you ready for some college football? As of this posting, there are only 23 days until the 2017 season kicks off. Rob Veno joins the guys for Part 1 of his preview. It focuses first on the Miami Hurricanes, who might be on track to be an elite program again thanks to second-year coach Mark Richt and a loaded defense. The Canes closed last season at 5-0 ATS & SU, thumping ranked West Virginia in the Russell Athletic Bowl. It’s still not clear who Miami will start at QB, though, after Brad Kaaya left for the NFL. The guys also look at the University of Minnesota and new coach PJ Fleck, he of “Row the Boat” fame last year with Western Michigan. Also, look out for Kansas State as a sleeper in the Big 12. When Coach Bill Snyder has a returning senior at quarterback, things often go well for his program. He does have one in Jesse Ertz.
