Rookie Watch: Cowboys’ Jalen Tolbert Popular Bet to Win Offensive Rookie of the Year

Dallas Cowboys rookie wide receiver Jalen Tolbert has received 13.8% of the betting handle to win the 2022 AP Offensive Rookie of the Year Award at Caesars Sportsbook.

His odds have moved from +5000 at opening to +1800 to win the award, and one Nevada bettor has a $2,000 wager at the opening number, which is the largest potential payout in the betting market.

Tolbert’s outlook to open the season became rosier when his path to meaningful snaps was cleared after it was known that both fellow wide receivers Michael Gallup and James Washington would be unavailable to start the season due to injuries. 

Gallup is still recovering from a torn ACL in his left knee he sustained in Week 17 last season, and Washington fractured his right foot during practice Aug. 1. 

Those injuries have Tolbert on the fast track to opening the season starting opposite No. 1 wide receiver CeeDee Lamb in a potentially dangerous Cowboys offense. With opposing defenses likely to pay plenty of attention to holding Lamb in check, it could present softer matchups for Tolbert to take advantage of.

A third-round selection out of South Alabama in the 2022 NFL Draft, Tolbert piled up 146 receptions for 2,559 yards and 16 touchdowns over his final two collegiate seasons, and he’s billed as having the athleticism, versatility and pass-catching skills to succeed in the NFL.

Additionally, the consensus among beat writers is Tolbert is having a solid training camp and developing chemistry with quarterback Dak Prescott.
