Without any preamble, much like Calgary when they went at it sansgloves with Vancouver; let’s have a look at the last ten for each of thesesides. Calgary are 2-7-1 and San Jose are 6-4-0. It’s the third of five gamesbetween the Flames and Sharks and the Sharks are 2-for-2 so far, but they wonthe most recent game in Calgary 3-2, thanks to an overtime goal by defensemanBrad Stuart.
Enough with recenthistory…WHERE’S THE MONEY MIKE?
At time of press the besthockey odds on this match have the Sharks at -275 and the Flames at 260. Thosesorts of odds speak volumes, and your Humble Handicapper can hear them loud andclear.
This is the start of afour-game homestand for the Sharks who are 16-2-3 so far at home, but the bestthing for the home side is forward Joe Pavelski has two goals (and five points)against Calgary this season, and if the Flames want to beat the Sharks, theyneed to put some restriction on Pavelski. This guy has 16 goals in his past 19games and sits amongst the NHL’s top scorers with 25 goals, that’s just six offhis career high, which he set two seasons ago.
More than one man in ateam (or is there)
Tampa were looking goodagainst the Sharks in their last away game and San Jose were trailing 4-2 untilPavelski took over, he nailed two goals (just 21 seconds apart) to even the score and then made a hat trick (in thespan of 6:12) for the 5-4 win.
Calgary had no such lucklast time out, and after their much talked about on ice scarp with the Canucksthey went down 3-2 in a shootout loss. They’d love to get people talking about themwinning one the ice – but I don’t see it. Calgary will be looking to Giordano, who has goals in consecutive games for the Flames and a three-game point streakoverall. Your Humble Handicapper reckons that there will be goals in this game (butnot thanks to the Calgary forwards). Don’t forget, Calgarywill be missing forward Mike Cammalleri, sidelined indefinitely with concussionwhile David Jones is day-to-day with his eye and at the back they’re missingKris Russell.
I’ll go further…
So back the Over 2.5 at-1600 and not Under at +1200. One reason we will see goals is that the Flames(16-26-7) are on a 2-9-1 stretch, and are now +50,000 to lift the Stanley cupthis term, no surprise as they are just three points better than the last-placeEdmonton Oilers in the Western Conference.
Through some money behindOver 405 goals at -275 (the Under is at +212) and maybe even Over 6.5 at -200as well but I’d stop short of Over 8.5 at +650. Take the San Jose Sharks for your free NHL picks.
NHL Prediction: It’ll be allabout San Jose, 3-1 at +3000 with bwin
