The race for the National League Cy Young Award is heating up as the MLB season closes in on the month of June. While Milwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Corbin Burnes is the consensus favorite to win the NL Cy Young for the second consecutive season, San Francisco Giants starter Carlos Rodon is a close second to take the honor in his first season in the NL.

With New York Mets hurlers Jacob deGrom (shoulder) and Max Scherzer (oblique) out long-term due to injuries, the betting market for the award has been shaken up entirely and a number of unproven arms have entered the conversation.

Here are the current odds at BetMGMCaesars Sportsbook, DraftKings Sportsbook, and FanDuel Sportsbook.

National League Cy Young Power Rankings

Corbin Burnes, Milwaukee Brewers (+350 at Caesars and FanDuel)

While prospective Burnes backers would like to see more than two wins to this point of the season, the 27-year-old righty actually has a better ERA and WHIP this season than last. The NL Central also features three doormats for Burnes to pad his statistics against, so the measly odds just might be warranted in this case.

Key Statistic: The strikeout artist leads the NL in punchouts with 67.

Question Mark: Winning back-to-back Cy Young Awards has been commonplace in the NL over the past decade, but can Burnes pile up enough victories to secure the votes?

Carlos Rodon, San Francisco Giants (+750 at FanDuel)

Take away a dud against the St. Louis Cardinals on May 15, and Rodon has been the best pitcher in the National League. Switching leagues and tossing home games at pitcher-friendly Oracle Park was expected to be a boon for the lefty, but landing in the heart of the NL Cy Young discussion probably wasn’t.

Key Statistic: The lefty ranks third in the majors in both strikeout percentage (34.1%) and FIP (2.14).

Question Mark: With a career-high 165 innings all the way back in 2016, does Rodon have the durability to excel for the entire season?

Joe Musgrove, San Diego Padres (+1200 at BetMGM)

Considering Musgrove has never received a Cy Young vote and faded down the stretch during the 2021 campaign with a 4.02 ERA and 4.22 FIP over his final 17 outings, it’s surprising to see bookmakers buying into his excellent start this year. Still, even if statistical correction looms, he’s 5-0 with excellent ratios.

Key Statistic: The second-year Friar has eight quality starts in eight trips to the bump.

Question Mark: Musgrove’s lack of flashy numbers makes him too boring to win the Cy Young, right?

Zack Wheeler, Philadelphia Phillies (+2000 at BetMGM)

Shoulder soreness delayed Wheeler’s start this year, and it also partially explains his underwhelming first three starts with three losses and an 8.53 ERA.

It’s been game-on since, though. The 31-year-old righty is coming off a season-high 10 strikeouts in his most recent start against the Atlanta Braves on May 23. He has his ERA and WHIP down to 3.38 and 1.15, respectively.

Key Statistic: Wheeler’s posted a dominant 40:6 K:BB with a 3-0 record through his past five starts.

Question Mark: If you think Wheeler has just hit stride, how good does that +2000 look at BetMGM?

Pablo Lopez, Miami Marlins (+1100 at BetMGM, Caesars and FanDuel)

With seven earned runs allowed across 10 innings through his past two appearances, the unsustainability of Lopez’s start to the campaign is beginning to come to fruition. Furthermore, Lopez has topped out at 111.1 innings during the 2019 campaign, and shoulder tightness limited the 26-year-old righty to just 102.2 innings last year.

Key Statistic: Lopez ranks third in the majors in WAR for pitchers.

Question Mark: How fast can you cash out your Lopez to win the NL Cy Young Award Ticket?
