In the midst of a 13-0 blowout loss at home against the Chicago White Sox, the Detroit Tigers turned to 26-year-old infielder Kody Clemens to pitch the eighth inning. Kody, of course, is the son of all-time great pitcher Roger Clemens.

During a 24-year MLB career, Roger Clemens won 354 games, was a seven-time Cy Young winner, and two-time World Series winner. Kody Clemens is not that kind of pitcher, because he is not a pitcher!

Kody Clemens entered Wednesday’s game in the eighth inning and allowed three hits, one walk, and one run before getting a force out to leave the bases loaded to finish the top of the eighth.

The Chicago White Sox have been disappointing this season, but Wednesday’s 13-0 win at Detroit completed a three-game sweep and improved their record to 30-31. The win moved the White Sox to within 2.5 games of a wild-card berth in the American League and, with more than 100 games remaining, there is still time for them to get into the playoffs.

While the Detroit Tigers were expected to show some progress this season, they have not lived up to even mediocre expectations. Wednesday’s loss to the White Sox was a fourth straight loss for the Tigers, dropping their record to 24-38.

Rookie pitcher Alex Faedo made Wednesday’s start for Detroit and although he entered the game with a 2.92 ERA and 1.24 WHIP through his first seven MLB starts, Faedo allowed seven runs in three innings before getting chased.
