Auburn Tigers forward Jabari Smith Jr. is the consensus favorite to be selected first overall in the 2022 NBA Draft, which will be held at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY, on Thursday, June 23.

Smith played just a single season with the Tigers. He averaged 16.9 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 2 assists across 34 games as a freshman this year.

He won the SEC Freshman of the Year Award, in addition to being named to the All-SEC first team and was a second-team All American.

The 6-foot-10, 220-pound Smith was also a consensus five-star recruit out of Sandy Creek High School in Tyrone, GA.

The 2022 NBA Draft Combine will be held May 16-22 in Chicago, IL, and the NBA Draft Lottery will be held on May 17.

There’s potential for the odds to see some movement during the combine or after the official draft order is determined by the lottery.

Currently, Gonzaga Bulldogs center Chet Holmgren is listed with the second shortest odds to be selected first overall. Duke Blue Devils forward Paolo Banchero is third lowest at all three sportsbooks.

It’s also worth noting that all three of the favorites played just a single season with their respective college teams. Additionally, each of the past 12 first overall selections in the NBA Draft has been one-and-done college stars.

Current Brooklyn Nets forward Blake Griffin was the last first overall selection to play more than a single collegiate season. He played two years with the Oklahoma Sooners before being selected with the No. 1 pick in the 2009 NBA Draft by the Los Angeles Clippers.
