The team with the worst record in Major League Baseball just landed a big bet at Caesars Sportsbook to win the National League Central.

Through 29 games, the Cincinnati Reds are 6-23 and sit 12.5 games behind the Milwaukee Brewers for the division lead. Despite this, a bettor dropped $1,000 on the Reds to win the NL Central with a payout of $750,000 if that unlikely result occurs.

The offseason was rough for the Cincinnati Reds. They waived left-handed starting pitcher Wade Miley, traded right-handed starter Sonny Gray and right fielder Jesse Winker, and lost left fielder Nick Castellanos via free agency.

Those were four vital pieces of a Reds team that was 83-79, a competitive team even if they did not reach the playoffs.

Naturally, the fans were unhappy, and Reds President and COO Phil Castellini dismissed their concerns.

Even the established players that the Reds have on the roster are struggling.

First baseman Joey Votto has a slash line of .122/.278/.135. He is 9-for-74 with eight singles and one double. 2021 National League Rookie of the Year Jonathan India has appeared in just 11 games.

Luis Castillo is the presumed ace of the pitching staff and made his first start of the season Monday. The other established starting pitcher, Tyler Mahle has delivered a 6.46 ERA and 1.57 WHIP through seven starts.

The Reds have won three of their past four games though, which might bring the sense of optimism for their longshot division title. They are on pace for 33.5 wins, which would be the fewest wins in the modern era, so there will likely be some improvement during the season.

If the Reds somehow pull this season out of the ditch and overtake the rest of the NL Central, there will be at least one happy bettor cashing in at Caesars.
