Reigning U.S. Open winner Matt Fitzpatrick has received the most money wagered to win the 2022 Genesis Scottish Open at BetMGM.

He’s the sportsbooks largest liability, and his odds have dipped from +2200 to win the event to +2000.

While last month’s U.S. Open win was his first on the PGA Tour, Fitzpatrick also has seven International victories on his resume, and he’s up to 10th in the Official World Golf Rankings.

The 27-year-old Englishman also ranks first in strokes gained: tee-to-green and second in both scoring average and strokes gained: total on tour this year.

Fitzpatrick has also been consistently in the hunt all season long with 10 top-25 showings and eight top-10 results through 15 events.

Of course, Fitzpatrick also finished in a tie for second place at last year’s Scottish Open at the Renaissance Club in North Berwick, Scotland.

There aren’t a lot of surprises on either list, as the top-tier players are popular among punters.

A couple names do stick out, though.

While Englishman Aaron Rai is far from a household name, he’s flashed on tour this season with two top-10 finishes, and he has six International wins on his resume. Of course, he won the event at the Renaissance Club in 2020.

Additionally, Scot Robert MacIntyre obviously has added motivation this week, and he would be the first Scottish winner since Colin Montgomerie in 1999. MacIntyre also has a pair of International victories to his name.

Longshot Fliers

Here are the longshots receiving the largest handle:

Adri Arnaus (+20000)Jordan Smith (+12500)Rickie Fowler (+12500)Erik van Rooyen (+15000)Callum Tarren (+25000)Victor Perez (+15000)Wyndham Clark (+20000)Danny Willett (+25000)

It’s interesting to note reigning Open Championship winner Collin Morikawa, and last year’s Scottish Open champion Min Woo Lee have both seen their odds climb from their opening numbers.

On the flip side, seeing bettors continue to back Rickie Fowler regardless of his current form isn’t surprising, as his popularity is entrenched among both fans and punters.

Spanish bomber Adri Arnaus ranks fourth in driving distance on the DP World Tour, and he also won the Catalunya Championship in May. Considering his long odds, it’s notable that he’s receiving 1% of the betting handle.
