Atlantic City online gambling goes live

profile

The Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa, the Trump Plaza Hotel and Casino, Bally’s Atlantic City, Caesaras Atlantic City, The Tropicana Casino and Resort, and the Trump Taj Mahal Casino resort are now able to spread their games to gamblers based in New Jersey. Players would have to register to set-up online accounts, be of age, and be in NJ to partake in casino and poker gambling.

The Golden Nugget Hotel and Casino is the biggest name to still be sitting on the sidelines. The Nugget is still undergoing internal tests of their software before having the state inspect their offering.

One of the biggest hurdles for the casinos to overcome is that geotargeting and geolocation data is not an exact science. An SBR Forum poster reported being flagged as outside of NJ and thus unable to wager online at one casino.

As for sports betting, which is not offered in the online gambling software as well as anywhere in the state of New Jersey due to old existing federal law that outlaws sports betting nationwide with the exception of four states including Nevada, the state of NJ is attempting to be heard by the US Supreme Court. NJ failed in its efforts in Trenton federal court as well as the Appellate court to have the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (“PASPA) overturned or amended.
