9/10 Daily Pitching Report with MLB Picks

Cubs vs. Blue Jays 7:05 PM ET
The Cubs will go with their bright young prospect Kyle Hendricks on the mound tonight. All he’s done since being called up from the minors is go 9-1 against the money, with a stellar 2.17 ERA, and all while pitching for an awful ball club. Pitching on the road hasn’t fazed the youngster, he’s gone a perfect 5-0 against the money, and with a very good 2.65 ERA. Hendricks has allowed 2 earned runs or less in each of his last 9-starts.

The Blue Jays counter with right-hander Drew Hutchinson. The Toronto hurler has been in outstanding form over his last 3-starts by posting an excellent 1.89 ERA. Unfortunately he’s struggled a bit at home, posting a lofty 5.17 ERA, and going 4-7 against the money. However, he’s seen his last 3 at home all stay under the MLB odds total while posting a microscopic 0.83 ERA in those outings.

Advantage: Based on just pure value, I must give a slight betting edge in this one to Hendricks of the Cubs over Hutchinson of the Blue Jays for one of my MLB picks today.

Cardinals vs. Reds 7:10 PM ET
The Cardinals will start veteran right-hander John Lackey on the mound tonight. Lackey comes off a shaky outing in his last time out at Milwaukee. In that start, he allowed 6 earned runs and 9-hits during a 6-2 loss. The loss stopped a 4-0 money line run for the Cardinals hurler. Lackey has gone 17-11 overall versus the money with a 3.91 ERA, while pitching for both the Cardinals and Red Sox in 2014. He’s seen all 9 of his career starts stay under the total when facing a National League opponent that averages 3.8 or less runs per game.

The Reds will go with Dominican born Alfredo Simon as their starting pitcher for tonight’s game. After getting off to a terrific start to the season which saw him go 15-3 against the money in his first 18, the Reds hurler has cooled off considerably since. As a matter of fact, he’s gone a dismal 1-9 versus the money in his last 10-starts. Simon has seen 4 of his last 5 go over the total, and posted a 5.72 ERA.

Advantage: Right now Alfredo Simon is sorely lacking confidence, and just not trusting his stuff. It’s not like John Lackey has been lights-out in recent starts, but he’s the better of the two evils tonight. I’m giving the slightest of edges in today’s pitching report to Lackey of the Cardinals over Simon of the Reds & recommend you do the same at 5Dimes.
