23/10 05:00 AM (set kill 23/10 09:00 PM) – WTA Finals Singapore – Best Plays For Day 1

Simona Halep (3) vs. Madison Keys (6)

For the third consecutive year, Simona Halep qualifies for the WTA Finals. After reaching the final in 2014, Simona is looking for another successful campaign in Singapore. Despite her disappointing second round loss in Beijing against Shuai Zhang, the last months have been outstanding for Halep with a 21 – 4 record since Wimbledon. Known for her outstanding counter punching skills, the fast game conditions in Singapore clearly suit Simona’s game style.

Pointed as one of the most promising players on the WTA Tour in recent years, Madison Keys is finally living up to the expectations. Famous for her tremendous firepower, Keys is for the first time on this event. Looking now to Madison’s results throughout the season, the American finished the year at a very good level, winning 78.38% of the matches played after the French Open. Despite her terrific performances in recent months, Keys reaches this event after withdrawing from the WTA Linz semifinals due to sickness. Even though we believe in a full recovery from Madison, it’s always important to keep in mind these situations, especially after a very demanding season.

This will be the 6th career meeting between these two players with Halep leading on the h2h by 4 – 1.

After winning their first encounter in 2014, Madison lost the following four, with the last three taking place this year. This seems to be a very good match-up for Halep with Keys unable to find an answer for the Romanian’s defensive skills. Simona loves the game conditions in Singapore and for that reason, our suggestion is for you to add the Romanian’s spread to your betting picks as the best play for this match.

Free Tennis Pick: Simona Halep -2.5 (-116)

Angelique Kerber (1) vs. Dominika Cibulkova (7)

After winning two Grand Slam titles this year – Australian Open and US Open – Angelique Kerber is looking to end the season with another important trophy in Singapore. Even though this is already Kerber’s fourth career appearance on this event, the new world no.1 never qualified from the round robin stage. Despite her remarkable physical condition, the last weeks haven’t been easy for Angelique with the German experiencing some fatigue after a very demanding year. Looking to Kerber’s numbers in 2016, the German played 78 matches so far this year.

At the age of 27, Dominika Cibulkova makes her debut in the WTA Finals after a remarkable year. Known for her aggressive baseline game, Cibulkova reaches this event after winning the WTA Linz title. Playing on Indoor Hard Court clearly suits Dominika’s game style with the Slovakian holding an outstanding 67.01% winning record on this surface while her overall record is only 61.29%.

These two players know each other well with each of them winning four matches so far on their previous encounters.

Despite the balance on the h2h, Kerber won the last four matches between them after four triumphs from Cibulkova between 2008 and 2013. This is always an interesting match-up with Cibulkova’s aggressive baseline game contrasting with Kerber’s outstanding defensive skills. With Angelique struggling to find her best tennis after a very demanding year while Dominika played at a superb level in Linz, the value is clearly on the Slovak’s betting odds. With this in mind, our advice is for you to place a bet on Cibulkova’s set handicap.

Free Tennis Pick: Dominika Cibulkova +1.5 Set Handicap (-135)
