Sports betting in New York is in its second week. FanDuel Sportsbook opened up shop at Tioga Downs in southern New York on Friday. FanDuel sportsbook at Tioga Downs Casino & Resort opened on the heels of the first sports wagers being made earlier in the week at Rivers Casino Resort in upstate New York.


Iowa officials are checking items off their list with the goal of having bettors making wagers on college and NFL games by September. Casinos are choosing sportsbooks providers, state regulations on betting are being vetted for approval possibly as early as the end of the month and gambling overseers are checking out geolocation software.


Lawmakers in North Carolina have given the go-ahead for the state’s recognized American Indian tribe to offer legal sports and horse betting at its two casinos. The Senate approved the measure three months ago, but the law stalled in the House finally getting traction and moving forward on a 90-27 vote.

New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu, who signed the sports betting bill into law on Friday, told reporters he is eager to place his first bet. He didn’t share which team he was willing to lay money on, but it won’t be a New Hampshire college sports event.


With anticipation high that New York State will be placing sports bet by the first NFL snap of the regular season, the Akwesasne Mohawk Casino Resort in New York announced it is partnering with The Stars Group to offer in-person sports betting. Both parties are also keen to make mobile betting available.


Sports betting in Maine has been placed on hold. Governor Janet Mills opted not to sign the sports betting measure. Mill declined to act on nearly 40 bills approved by lawmakers, so she could review them further. Sports betting bill LD 553 was passed on the last day of the legislative session and was expected to be signed by Mills.


As Indiana moves forward with implementing sports betting in time for the NFL season, the Indiana Gaming Commission has published proposed regulations which are now open for public review. Among the planned rules is a contingency that pro sports leagues and the NCAA can ask the IGC to use geofence technology to prohibit wagers at select sporting events if the contest’s integrity is in question.


A legal sports betting measure proposed by two California lawmakers is likely to have an uphill battle as tribal interests already are expressing opposition to the bill. State Senator Bill Dodd and Assemblyman Adam Gray say the bill if passed would let voters decide the fate of sports betting and the benefits it would offer.

The largest gambling company in the world was formed Monday when Eldorado Resorts purchased Caesars Entertainment in a cash and stock deal worth $17.3 billion. The deal also includes Eldorado’s assumption of Caesars’ debt. Caesars is one of the most recognized gambling brands owning some of the world’s most iconic casinos, including Caesars Palace.

According to numbers released by the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board, $35.9 million was bet in May, down 19%.


New Yorkers are still waiting to find out if they’ll be able to place mobile bets on sports. After the measure passed in the State Senate with a 57-5 vote Monday, the N.Y. Assembly has yet to take up the issue – and the session was scheduled to end Wednesday. The Assembly was scheduled to reconvene Thursday morning.
