Morino - he did not follow the rules. He knew he wasn't following the rules. Him and TA were all dishonest and scummy, thinking they could bend the rules to get him in. That exemption that you said he got? The deadline to apply for the exemption was December 10th. He tried to use the excuse that he already had Covid as the basis for the exemption BUT he didn't get Covid (which is a damn lie) until December 16th. What a dumb ass.

Dec. 10, 2021: The deadline to apply for a vaccine exemption to the Australian Open, in January 2022, comes and goes. Djokovic has been coy about his vaccination status throughout the fall, but sources tell Sports Illustrated that he hasn’t gotten the jab.
Dec. 16, 2021: Djokovic tests positive for COVID-19 for, at least, the second time, according to documents his lawyer will later share in court. He uses this as grounds to apply for an Australian Open medical exemption from the vaccine.

He got an exemption and made an honest and minor mistake. Again, he thought he thought he was following the rules.

Morino read what I posted. The exemption should have been invalid because he applied before the deadline... Him and Tennis Australia thought they could game the system.

BUT here is the fact that you are missing. Just because the Victoria state government gave him a medical exemption to play in the tournament that DID NOT GUARANTEE that he would be allowed into the country.

Some of the confusion is reportedly due to Tennis Australia, which runs the Australian Open. Tennis Australia reportedly gave incorrect information to players and staff regarding acceptable exemptions, according to the Associated Press. That could explain why Djokovic believed his exemption for his previous COVID-19 diagnosis would apply at the Australian border.

Him and TA were both cheaters. Novax knew the rules. Why did EVERYONE else get in? Because they followed the rules and he did not. He tried to play everyone. He's playing you and his supporters. You think he's perfectly innocent, a victim. When the real truth is that all he did was tell lies. The biggest lie was that he had Covid on Dec 16th. Don't fall for his lies. He's not a victim.

Novak got robbed. What a waste of his time to fly to Aussie land then be locked down in a hotel room and then get deported and not play in the slam.

Damn shame the way he was treated!!!

Yeah it's pretty dumb. He doesn't have covid so him not being allowed to play tennis makes 0 sense. Also when you are vaccinated you still get covid. If vaccinated people get covid from someone unvaccinated it's not worse than if vaccinated spread covid. Also they keep making bosters. The whole thing is stupid.

    this was last week

    what changed ??

"He would not follow the same organisational arrangements as those who are vaccinated," Maracineanu told FranceInfo radio. "But he will nonetheless be able to compete [at Roland Garros] because the protocols, the health bubble, allows it."

It's like taking Michael Jordan out of a NBA championship game 7 in his prime because of some BS regulation.

You just don't do that!! Australia authorities did just that to Novak!! Bastards!

Tennis was MUCH MORE popular in the 80s. It has dropped off the map ever since. To give you an idea, Wimbledon will get around 2 million views for their mens finals (The woman are very close and have had more views of late). The Masters golf will get 9 million views. The World Series 14 million views. The Kentucky Derby will get 15 million views. NBA finals 17 million. College March Madness 18 million. Super Bowl 100 million views. A lot of tennis views are not from America.

I'm not trying to bag on tennis. It's a great sport. I belong to a tennis club. My niece was once the #1 ranked player under 16. But it isn't watched much, especially the men. The Tennis Club once had dozens of courts of all surfaces. They got rid of all the clay courts and cut down the rest at least by half, maybe more. They put in a lazy river and other stuff instead.
    Mac is right about this.

The sport is dead. The US women have faded away, the men haven't been relevant for 15 years.

I went to the US open in 2015. When Serena lost in semis. Finals tix were going for under 50 bucks.

The problem with the sport is there's no fire/ personalities like Conners, McEnroe, Agassi, etc.

Hopefully Novak can turn the twilight of his career into some type of villan role or whatever and spur up some exciting ratings.

    Tennis needs a bad boy.

Decided not to watch this year to punish Australian government. They brought this to themselves. Boycotting them.

Dead wrong here Minny, and you know you are my guy. you don't sound like young Minny, you sound like Minny's dad who is grumpy and old now like my old man.

The TV ratings were at all time highs from 2005 to 2018 while FED and RAFA ran the show and JOKER came up to dominate.

now the young guns are coming up like MEDVEDEV, ZVEREV, TSITSIPAS, etc and they are bringing it back from the recent lows of 2019 and 2020.

as long as those 3 guys i just mentioned plus RAFA are playing in the Aussie, they will get decent ratings even with the time difference.

WIMBY AND US OPEN? will be excellent TV ratings.

    ======================================== ============================

2019 and 2020 were an aberration. here is info about the US OPEN which behind is WIMBY is one the most watched Tennis Slam:

As well as facing unusual competition from the playoffs in both basketball’s NBA and ice hockey’s NHL, as well as the first weekend of the NFL season, the tournament also lacked a number of star players, notably Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal, while world number one Novak Djokovic was disqualified in the round of 16 after accidentally hitting a line judge with a ball.
Saturday’s women’s final, in which Japan’s Naomi Osaka beat Belarusian Victoria Azarenka, averaged 2.15 million viewers, down 46 per cent from last year’s clash between Serena Williams and Bianca Andreescu, which drew an audience of 4 million.
This represented the lowest viewership figure for the women’s final since 2017.
Sunday’s men’s final, in which Austria’s Dominic Thiem won his first grand slam by beating Germany’s Alexander Zverev, averaged 1.48 million viewers, a drop of 46 per cent from Nadal’s victory over Daniil Medvedev in 2019, which attracted 2.75 million, and down 29 per cent from 2018.
Thiem’s five-set win was the second least-watched men’s final on record, slightly above the final between Nadal and Kevin Anderson three years ago, which averaged 1.47 million.
It was the first men’s US Open final since 2014 without Federer, Nadal or Djokovic.

    IDK Homie

U think last 2 years were oddities, I think it's over, period.

People LOVE Federer, anything he's in, they'll watch.

    He's done.

Nobody cares (in America) about Nokak, his tenur won't prove anything plus or minus, ratings wise.

Nadal....IDK about his marketing because he was OUT for like 2.5 years when Fed/ Novak carried the torch, and guys like Cilic, Wawrinka & Murray snuck in there w big wins.

I see the sport as a whole in decline. Casual players are transitioning to pickleball, the fixes have killed the gamblers, and our big 3 are fading away.

Noone in America is tuning in to watch Zverev

Medvedev maybe, because he's a prick w bad hair and cast out of Hollywood as a Bond villain who has a unique style of play.

    He could be the savior

But we all thought the same thing when the great players of the 80's retired in the early 90's, i'm talking McEnroe, Connors, Lendl, Becker, Edberg, Wilander, all those guys. then along camp sampras and agassi and ivanisevic and courier and rafter and tennis came right back and then we thought it was dead again in the early 2000's when those guys all retired but then it went to another level when Fed and Rafa took over and along came Djokovic.

each guy with 20 slams are you kidding me ?? incredible !!!

i think these young guns are gona keep us going but it will take a little time for the personalities to hit the mainstream.

thiem is a great player but injured i think.

These young guys, like Theim, are all rouded up.

None of them last, all flashing the pan.

Same w women. They win one and fall off a cliff

Obviously Medvedev isn't on roids, he's the chance. If Fritz can get into the top 10 and establish a rivaly w Medvedev maybe we got something, but there's just no USA players in the top 10 hence little interest here.

When the stars of the 70s/ 80s retired, we Segwayed to Samprass/ Agassi...but we also Segwayed into contrasting styles.

All the young dudes, except Medvedev and, unfortunately, Kryios & Paire , play the same way or are serve bots.

    I'm not hopeful

^^^ Those are AWFUL numbers Homie. Wow, that is bad. Like I said before, the women are beating the men in the TV ratings. That's all you need to know and Serena was really the catalyst for the women. That ship has sailed. No one in the US cares about any of the men. Tennis has quickly become a fringe sport like table tennis, bowling, cornhole and ultimate frisbee.

I bet the Australian Open will have record low numbers. And not because NoVAX is not playing.
