Tennis: Kim Clijsters' comeback today - First WTA Tour match in more than seven years

Kim Clijsters' return to the WTA Tour will take place at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships, where she has been pitted against No.6 seed Kiki Bertens in a headline first-round encounter.

The 36-year-old four-time Grand Slam champion has not competed on tour since the 2012 US Open and her return to action as a wildcard promises to be a baptism of fire against the World No.8.

I’m watching on tennis channel. Kim isn’t in tennis shape. Looks like a 36 year old woman with 3 kids trying to huff and puff.

If she gets in better shape she may have a chance. Her ball striking is still good.

6-2 Mug 1st set. Kim too many DFs, ROS bad. She did hit a few nice winners.

Kim up 6-5 in the 2nd set. Playing way better now. Her talent is clearly still there.

Kim won’t be that big of underdog the rest of her matches. She played very good 2nd set. Lots of natural talent still in her strokes. Mug was actually pretty good all match, so that tells you Kim’s level even after 8 years off

She looked a lot better than Serena did when she came back from maternity leave. Plus she's been gone a whole lot longer. The rust showed, but I think that once she gets her legs under her and some tournament experience, she could very well become a top 10 player again. She still hits the ball very well.

She came back for a reason. The current level of WTA is piss poor. Some good players but no real beasts/super stars out there. Kim is an old school player who played before all the social media and distractions and she will have the edge over every current player in the mental aspect. her movement is not that great but her ball striking abilities are still there. Her movements may not get to prime but she is still athletic enough. Don't let her looks fool you. She never looked athletic even in her prime but was very athletic and won with her shot making abilities over athleticism anyways. Her chances of winning are as good as any other top 10 player after she gets few games under her belt. I think she has good chance of winning a grandslam. I would put in few fun bets as soon as i see usopen and wimbledon future options when the odds are still nice before she gets few games under her belt.

I agree. She has a mental edge on the majority of the field. I also expect her work ethic to surpass most. Those attributes are exactly how Kenin just won the AO.

17 year olds winning a title isn't that uncommon. Anisimova won one last year, Vondrousova and Konjuh also won relatively recently

But can't remember a 16 year old or younger winning a title in recent memory except for Gauff who was actually 15 when she won Linz last year

FORMER NO. 1 KIM CLIJSTERS TO RESUME COMEBACK IN MIAMI AND CHARLESTON

The four-time major singles champion will launch her 2021 season at March's Miami Open after accepting a wild card into the 1000-level event. Clijsters will follow that appearance up by making her event debut at Charleston's Volvo Car Open.
