    JC's 2016 Tennis (& porbably some Motorsport too) Thread

    Haven't properly recorded my bets publically in years and now, the timing it right, for me to be able to put the time in to stay disciplined and focussed.

    This thread will primarily be Tennis, but I'm not ruling out Moto GP, Formula 1, World Superbikes and V8 Supercars (Australia). I may separate the threads. I may not.

    Unlike Jeff Black, I probably won't put in too much justification for my bets.

    I'm also going to do something a little differently in that I'll bet in both dollars and units. They both mean the same thing. $100AUD = 1 unit.

    Alright time to christen it.

    WTA Rome Masters
    To win 1st Quarter
    Ana Ivanovic @ 21.00
    400.00 AUD

    She has Serena Williams and Halep in her Quarter and she'll most likely have to beat both. Perrrrfect! It means I get juicy odds. Ana may be a bit of a lost cause these days, but don't underestimate her potential to beat the best when executing her game plan. Particularly on this surface. She has good people in her corner and the former French Open Champion is one of the few women to possess the necessary weapons to beat the very best in the game.

    Serena coming back from injury.

    Halep coming off winning Madrid.

    This makes them both hopefully just vulnerable enough.

    Should Ana beat Serena I may consider laying off on her Quarter Final opponent. That's part of the reasoning beind the large stake size (considering the odds).

    Thanks buddy. Yeah that was much of the motivation behind me starting it.

    When it's all in one thread you've got nowhere to hide. As opposed to the many "tuesday/wednesday/thursday play" one-off type threads which get buried fast and accountability (as you say) is nowhere to be seen.

    I just need to focus on betting the same way I would usually and not allow the fact others will see my plays influence me in the slightest.

    Win, win, lose. So a Lose.

    Dzumhur was up 6-2 3-1 and had three bp's. One of them was a netcord on bp and I couldn't believe it. He reached 1.03 on Betfair.
    Anyway tough loss.

    Groth is so rubbish bit the bet still lost. Just 3 points or so separated them in the end so the punt was certainly justified at those odds.

    Yeah, I visit the forum almost every day, but rarely post, since the tennis section died couple of months ago.

    You found great piece of value, fading Groth there. Bets like that one make profit long-term.

    And hey, multis are welcome as long as they are making money for you. You are not the only one who doesn't respect the unwritten rule: "succesful bettors don't bet combos"

    Caught some of the last set, Groth wasn't very good whatsoever. Has regressed so much that it took him three sets and being broken serving for the match to beat a player ranked in the 400s.

    hey JC, good to see another well-run thread developing around here...

    a comment about keeping score in dollars "versus" units...if 1u=100 AUD...probably better to keep simple and track only in the more convenient $ terms...because a simple kick of the decimal place instantly yields "units" whenever they're desired..so the upside of choosing and sticking with one (WHICHEVER one you choose, really doesn't matter...but good'ol $ has that extra layer of meaning) yardstick is less work and yields a cleaner & less-confusing presentation...and (thanks to decimal-point arithmetic) there is no downside
