Pinnacle Sports suspends wagering on the Australian Open due to suspicious activity

They believe the games are being fixed.

Right now it seems to be mixed doubles but I don't know about the entire tournament. Turns out Pinnacle never sees much action on these games but a small number of people placed enormous bets.

That raised the red flags and Pinnacle called the Australian police.

I think Betfair may have also caught the suspicious activity.

I think the average legit wager trend is 2k. Pinnacle and Betfair were getting 25k bets from a small number of people.

They call local police for soccer games. Looks like tennis has been infected with betting syndicates.

qw, the amount of $$ bet on Mixed Doubles has to be minimal worldwide.

Could be shady. Better explanation is that those #s may not be very sharp.

    http://www.nytimes.com/2016/01/25/sp...s-betting.html

MELBOURNE, Australia — A major sports gambling website suspended betting on Sunday for a mixed doubles match at the Australian Open, raising suspicions of match fixing at one of the world’s most prestigious tennis tournaments.

Ahead of a match pitting Lara Arruabarrena and David Marrero against Andrea Hlavackova and Lukasz Kubot, large amounts of money poured in on what would normally be an obscure contest, said Marco Blume, head of sportsbook at the website, Pinnacle Sports, one of the largest and most influential betting websites in the world.

Nearly all of the money, Blume said, came down for Hlavackova and Kubot, which he said was an indication that the match might be fixed.

Hlavackova and Kubot won, 6-0, 6-3. The first set lasted only 20 minutes.

5Dimes is still taking action but I doubt these games will remain fixed.

I think they flagged the wagers prior to the match.

Unlike the complexities with FIFA, betting patterns caught by online gaming sites may have uncovered global fraud.

I would call this a story regardless of how boring mixed doubles may be.

Doesn't pinny/sportsbooks just confiscate the bet money anyway when these suspicious activities occur? So why even bother ? I mean do they actually pay out wagers on obvious fixed matches ?

Yes they pay. With so many matches a day it's impossible for them to catch every fixed one.

What if all the bets are one sided and the bet loses? Will Pinnacle complain or will they just pocket the losses?

I don't care for Tennis but when you have fixed matches in one 1 of the 4 majors it gets interesting.

Think of all the criminal activity that goes into it. Bribes, tax evasion and collusion at high levels.

    This isn't a daily tennis tournament, it's a major.

You have to wonder who is up top pulling the puppet strings.

Most Americans don't care about the Australian Open and I am one of them. Just wait for the back story as the onion gets peeled. That will be interesting.

I wonder if a few fans probably saw the injured player at a practice session favoring a limb or something, but the closest people being the trainer, coach and friends would readily know and could easily text someone they know about something.

Unfortunatelly every tanker will be confused as a fixer from now on.

Hard to believe that in the heat of the controversy, a player would fix their match. Some of the two Spaniards was most likely injured and that information reached someone in the betting business. The poor guys just wanted to tank and collect some appearance cash and are now considered fixers.

I remember some years ago in Aussie Open, Davydenko was up a set against Fed, Davy was making every shot, looked awesome, Fed had no answer, then set 3 came and it looked like Davy had never played tennis in his life, of course he went on to lose miserably, always thought he blew that match on purpose or something, cant see why you would but it was one of the more fishier things Ive seen.

Davydenko was the most notorious fixer of them all. Well known for throwing matches, although it doesn't make so much sense to throw a match against Federer, where Federer nas a clear favorite.

The fixed matches tended to be ones where Davydenko was facing inferior competition that he should've crushed; Same with Dolgopolov.

The books are probably thinking that it was rigged when certain Tennis players are willing to lose the game by betting against themselves at sports betting.
This is how you rig a game. This is fked up.
