At least with the men there is some level of consistency in the top 50 or so and they all give max effort in grandslams. I can watch women's tennis all day, just can't bet on it.
That aside how about the Sock/Fritz 1st round matchup. The future of American tennis. This Fritz kid might be the real deal. He has the pedigree, his mom was a tennis player and he's one of only a couple of people ever to win multiple challenger tournaments before his 18th birthday something that both Nadal and Djokovic also did. This is his first ever appearance in the Men's draw of a GS. Nothing is guaranteed but he's off to a great start in his career. It would be big for American tennis if he could keep ascending and potentially be a top 10 player in a couple of years. It's been awhile since the U.S. had a legit threat on the men's side to win grandslams. I never saw Isner as a player with the type of game to win grandslams and the rest of the American guys, Young, Querrey, Kudla, Ram etc. are all jokes. We need someone to step up.
